16 fragile and failed states

While we continue our journey around the globe, there are some areas in the world that we have to avoid. Instability and unrest in these regions often make them insecure or irresponsible decisions for tourists.

If we make the very simple decision not to go, it is easy to forget that these failed states are home to millions of people who fight every day, if not for survival, then for a very fundamental level of well -being.

In the following we take a look at some of these failed states and the huge problems with which they are confronted.

measurement error

The non -profit organization Fund for Peace publishes its fragile states index every year, which was previously known as the "failed states index". This is an evaluation of every UN member state based on 12 indicators, including social, economic, political and military factors.

It evaluates every condition up to a maximum of 10 under each indicator, whereby 10 is bad and 1 good. The higher the score, the worse the condition.

We list the 16 worst states, those who have reached over 100 out of a maximum of 120 points and therefore have received the status of "very high alarm" or "high willingness to alert" in relation to their fragility - or, in order to be less politically correct, fail - as functioning states.
