Castle Festival 2025: Around the world in 80 days thrills in Freudenberg!

On June 16, 2025, the curtain fell on the premiere of the 2025 Castle Festival at the Freudenburg in Freudenberg am Main. Around 400 visitors experienced an exciting production of the classic “Around the World in 80 Days” by Jules Verne. The adaptation is by Jan-Markus Dieckmann and is performed by the Freudenberg Burgschauspielverein with amateur actors of different ages.

The event marks the 20th piece to be performed at the Freudenburg, with the first performances taking place every Friday and Saturday until July 5, 2025. Performance times are between 8:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. and include a 30-minute intermission. Patron Dr. In his speech, Wolfgang Reinhart emphasized the cultural significance of the event as well as the committed voluntary work of the performers.

Adventure and humanity themes

The production addresses fundamental human themes such as freedom, equality and peace. It sheds light on the 19th century, marked by colonialism and everyday racism, and offers a humorous unmasking of social parallels to today. Particularly noteworthy are the reinterpreted female characters, including the spirited Inspector Emmeline Fix.

The story centers on Philias Fogg, who bets half of his fortune that he can circumnavigate the earth in exactly 80 days. He is accompanied by his French servant Jean Passepartout as his adventures take him to exotic places such as Egypt, India, Hong Kong and America. The plot unfolds further with the Indian beauty Miss Aouda joining the journey and the obstacles added by the persistent adversary Inspector Fix.

Unique theater experience

To dramatically underline the story, the production uses circus elements. The audience enjoyed long applause and standing ovations for the ensemble and the director, which impressively reflected the enthusiasm of the audience. The performance is part of a series of dramas presenting great literary material adapted from Oscar Wilde and Victor Hugo.

The 2025 Castle Festival at Freudenburg not only promises an exciting journey around the world, but also a refreshing examination of profound topics presented in a modern guise. Audiences can look forward to a total of seven performances with a stylistically designed tiered stage.
