Ski stars on vacation: This is how Vonn, Shiffrin & Co. enjoy their free time!
In the world of skiing, many of the most famous athletes are currently enjoying their time off as they prepare for the challenges ahead. Lindsey Vonn, the former downhill queen with 82 World Cup victories and four overall World Cup titles, is currently attending a Beyoncé concert in the USA. Her summer break appears to be well-filled, and she has stressed in the past that she would like to team up with Mikaela Shiffrin in the new combined competition at the World Championships in Saalbach, Austria. Vonn described this collaboration as “one of the coolest things” she could experience. The World Championships will take place February 4-16, 2025, with the women's competition scheduled for February 11, and the new combined event will also debut at the 2026 Olympics. Shiffrin, who is the most successful female skier of all time with 101 World Cup victories, can now be found at a Denver Nuggets game in Colorado.
Overall, the athletes enjoy a variety of activities outside of the slopes. Wendy Holdener, the slalom specialist from Switzerland, travels to Vietnam for her brother Steve's wedding and thinks of her late brother Kevin. On another side of the world, Justin Murisier, a giant slalom specialist, rides a bike in the Sierra Nevada, while Franjo von Allmen, also from Switzerland, spends his time playing motocross on vacation. Camille Rast, another Swiss woman, decided to attend a MotoGP race in Jerez, Spain.
Relaxation and adventure
In addition to these exciting activities, Cornelia Hütter, a multiple World Cup winner from Austria, is relaxing in the Bahamas. Joana Hählen, the downhill skier, finds happiness hiking in the mountains of Sardinia, and Mélanie Meillard, the technology specialist from Switzerland, explores the streets of London. Delia Durrer and Alessia Bösch from Switzerland are also enjoying relaxing days by the sea in Greece, while Marco Schwarz, the combination world champion from Austria, is spending the Easter holidays on the beach.
2018 Olympic champion Sofia Goggia is taking a break in the Maldives, while 2020 Olympic and overall World Cup champion Federica Brignone is attending a tennis masters in Rome, where she has the opportunity to meet Jannik Sinner. Last but not least, speed specialist Isabella Wright from the US team enjoys her time in Italy with typical pasta and the warm sun.
The coming winter season promises not only top sporting performances, but also the opportunity for a new form of competition that could bring ski icons Vonn and Shiffrin together. The anticipation for the World Championships is building and athletes are using their free time to recharge their batteries for the challenges that lie ahead.
