Princess Amalia on a diplomatic trip with Queen Máxima in the USA!
Amalia, the eldest daughter of Queen Máxima and King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, goes on a three-day trip to the USA with her mother. This journey, which begins on September 18, 2025, is intended to give the 21-year-old princess practical insights into diplomacy and finance. The main theme of the trip covers financial aspects, which is particularly important given Máxima's extensive experience in the field of business. Máxima studied economics in Buenos Aires and worked in New York City from 1996 to 2000, where she worked at Deutsche Bank, among others. Here she also met her future husband, King Willem-Alexander. For Amalia, the trip offers a much-needed change of scenery after enduring negative headlines from deepfake sex videos in recent weeks.
The three-day trip takes Amalia and Queen Máxima to both Washington, D.C. as well as to New York City, where important events are on the agenda. In Washington on September 22, Máxima will attend a meeting with the Board of Directors of the Inter-American Development Bank to discuss financial health in Latin America and the Caribbean. Discussions with the heads of the International Finance Corporation and an exchange with the US G20 Sherpa are also planned.
Visit to the UN General Assembly
Amara and Queen Máxima will be in New York City on September 23 to attend the opening of the 80th UN General Assembly. This event is central to Máxima's role as Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Financial Security. The next day, September 24th, she co-hosted a panel with Globant, a software and IT company.
An emotional highlight of the trip will be the presentation of Máxima's first annual report as UNSGSA on financial health to UN Secretary-General António Guterres. She will also discuss with business leaders and policymakers the important role employers play in the financial health of their employees. Another important item on her agenda is the creation of an informal “Financial Health Friends Group” that she plans to discuss with ministers and ambassadors.
Future prospects for the princess
Principal Catharina-Amalia successfully completed her studies in politics, psychology, law and economics at the University of Amsterdam in July 2025. From the academic year 2025-2026, she will begin a bachelor's degree in Dutch law at the same university, while also participating in a two-year part-time military work and study program at the Defense College. In the past, she has expressed that she hopes to become "a good queen" one day, highlighting her desire to follow in her mother's footsteps and take on responsibilities.
Amalia and Queen Máxima's journey highlights not only the diplomatic efforts of the Dutch monarchy, but also the princess's personal development and commitment to her future role in the royal family.
