Venezuela warns: dangerous trips to the USA for compatriots!

El Salvador, El Salvador - The Venezuelan government issued a comprehensive travel warning for the United States on May 31, 2025. According to a report by America21 , Venezolans will be able to take an departure in the USA. This recommendation is pronounced in the context of the offensive deportation policy of the US government towards Venezuelan migrants, which are increasingly criminalized. The Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasizes that Venezuelans in the United States are exposed to massive human rights violations, including arbitrary detention and family separation.

On the same day, the US State Department published a high travel warning for Venezuela, in which Nicolás Maduro government is warned of the risk of arrests. The relationship between the USA and Venezuela has been tense since the termination of diplomatic relationships in 2019, which means that there is no US message or a consulate in Venezuela.

deportations according to El Salvador

The fact that a total of 252 Venezuelan men from the USA were deported in March 2025 and brought to the Cecot prison in El Salvador in March 2025. These deportations were carried out as part of a controversial agreement between the US and the Salvadorian government. The US authorities refer to the men of the gang tren de Aragua, which was classified as "foreign terrorist organization", but without providing any reliable evidence. Tagesschau reports that intelligence reports are the claim that tren de Aragua work with the Maduro government.

The investigations by the Cato Institute, however, show that at least 50 of the deported Venezolans were legally immigrated to the USA and could not have a criminal record. As a result, the Venezuelan government started legal steps in the Salvadorian authorities in order to free the deported compatriots from the Cecot prison.

US policy and migration

The US government under President Donald Trump uses the "Alien Enemies Act" from 1798 to legitimize the deportations. This legal text allows the President to avoid immigration procedures in order to deport people from “enemy nations”. Historically, this act was only applied in times of war or in the event of an impending invasion. Despite a court decision that ordered the deportations, the first aircraft were already on the way to El Salvador.

el Salvador's President Nayib Bukele confirmed the arrival of 238 suspected gang members and published a video of the arrival. These people were brought to a high -security prison for terrorists. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that these measures brought "hundreds of violent criminals" out of the country. In addition, the US government shows willingness to pay El Salvador up to six million dollars for the inclusion of the prisoners.

Return of migrants

Since the beginning of March 2025, Caracas has made it possible to return around 5,000 migrants deported by 26 flights. The last group of 315 designated arrived with an airplane from Mexico in Venezuela. At the same time, thousands of Venezolans who were on the way to the USA are returning from Texas, Mexico and other Central American countries.

The current developments throw a bright light on the humanitarian and legal challenges with which migrants are faced with, and illustrate the tensions between the USA and Venezuela in terms of the treatment of migrants and the handling of deportations.
