Summer 2025: Vietnam's green tourism boom attracts travelers!
The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) has forecast a positive development for the summer of 2025, expecting a significant increase in “green tourism”. This form of travel increasingly focuses on sustainable experiences and personalized trips. Data shows that 71% of tourists prioritize eco-friendly destinations with sustainable development, while 76% of travelers want to make a positive contribution to the local community. These figures make it clear that sustainable tourism is increasingly becoming the focus of travelers. vietnam.vn reports that Vietnam, with its unique destinations, is a popular place for environmentally conscious travelers.
Popular destinations within Vietnam include Da Lat, Hue, Hoi An, Ninh Binh, Da Nang, Quy Nhon, Ha Giang and Sapa. These places not only offer breathtaking landscapes, but also diverse opportunities to immerse yourself in the country's culture and traditions. Vietravel Can Tho, a leader in Vietnamese tourism, has launched a summer program themed “Green Experience – Experience the Quality Summer,” running from May 5 to July 31, 2025.
Promoting sustainable tourism
The Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) is actively promoting domestic tourism. In this context, Can Tho has launched programs that offer discounts of 20-30% on services as well as new experiential programs. Ido Travel Can Tho offers 8 Western tour programs that also offer discounts of 10-15%. Hotels and resorts in the region are currently offering attractive discounts of 18-30% to support the tourism sector in the region.
A special initiative is the “Keep the cranes – Keep millions of green” campaign, which was launched to protect the habitat of the red-crowned crane in the Mekong Delta. A portion of the trip proceeds will be used to support biodiversity conservation activities in Tram Chim National Park. These measures reflect the growing awareness of environmentally friendly travel.
International travel trends and sustainability
Internationally, destinations in Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, Dubai, Europe, Australia and the Americas are racing to promote the benefits of sustainable travel. Wolfgang Strasdas, Professor of Sustainable Tourism Management, recommends only taking long-distance trips if you have enough time and otherwise planning a vacation nearby. This is in line with the wishes of many travelers who are increasingly using environmentally friendly means of transport and prefer sustainably certified providers. Regional food and products are also very popular to support the local economy. According to Antje Monshausen from “Bread for the World”, however, caution is advised: Some offers can correspond to a sustainable principle, while others, such as short city trips by plane, are less ecological. lonelyplanet.de points out that when choosing a trip, the focus is often on destination and price, while ecological and fair aspects are often neglected.
This year's summer programs in Vietnam offer numerous opportunities for travelers to contribute to sustainable development. In addition, the Summer Open Festival was held from May 14th to 16th and the “Summer Travel Fest – Summer Breakthrough 2025” from May 10th to 11th to present new travel products and special incentives for tourists. Programs such as Gratitude Journey and 14 Days of Vietnamese Pride aim to target specific groups, catering to a wide range of interests and budgets.
