Latin America weeks in Münster: Experience culture, dance and cuisine!

This year, the UPLA e.V. association is inviting people to the eagerly awaited Latin America Weeks for the 16th time. This event will take place in Münster from October 17th to November 15th and has the motto “Experience culture with all the senses / Cultura a través de los sentidos”. This colorful series is implemented in cooperation with local partners who want to present the lively way of life in Latin America. The opening of the Latin America Weeks will take place on October 17th from 7 p.m. in the B-Side event hall.

An exciting program awaits visitors at the opening. Live music will be performed by Romer Avendaño, Régulo Guanipa and Juan Carlos Savater. The Tango Pasión association also presents the soulful sounds of Argentine tango. Another highlight of the evening is a short lecture by Ignacio Helmke, who deals with the topic “Photography and Colonialism: The representation of the Mapuche in the context of German migration to Chile (1850–1950)”.

Diverse program and culinary highlights

The Latin America Weeks offer a four-week program that anyone interested can experience. Some events require prior registration. For lovers of Latin American cuisine, local restaurants have provided culinary offerings that showcase specialties from different countries. A workshop on Mexican cuisine is also part of the program.

A creative event called “Jumping Diner” is also offered: participants move between different apartments and each bring their own dishes, which promotes a special exchange of cultures and foods. Dance workshops in Salsa, Zumba and Tango are aimed at both beginners and advanced dancers and invite you to rhythmically immerse yourself in the Latin American passion.

Additional events

In addition, participants can expect an exciting series of travel reports about Guatemala under the title “Between Volcanoes, Lakes and Traditions”. Live concerts and DJ evenings with Latin American music also ensure a happy atmosphere. The highlight of the Latin America Weeks will be the concert “Molto Hispanoamericano”, which takes place in cooperation with the Münster University of Music.

The UPLA e.V. association has been committed to cultural exchange between Latin America and Germany since 2008 and has thus earned a permanent place in Münster's cultural calendar. Further information and the complete program can be found on the association's website www.upla-ev.de to find.

Parallel to the Latin America Weeks, the Esslingen Adult Education Center offers a free workshop for learning the Spanish language. This workshop is aimed at participants with or without previous knowledge and focuses on the five senses for playful language recording. By using feelings and unconscious impulses, a relaxed atmosphere is created to expand language skills without pressure.

The workshop activities include listening, singing, feeling and playing small scenes. The aim is to learn Spanish with joy and ease and to overcome language fears. Further details about this offer can be found at VHS Esslingen be read.
