How much does the Seven Summits climb?

Our local mountaineer and wannabe-seven-summit striker expects numbers how much it will cost to climb the seven peaks

What does the Seven Summits climb? Around $ 180,000

climbers could significantly reduce the costs by refraining from luxury, making cuts and (even more) risks to bring this number below $ 100,000, but I will certainly not recommend this and will certainly not take such unnecessary risks.

I came to the number above by viewing five established international mountain guide companies based in the United States, Great Britain and New Zealand. I have put together their prices for climbing all seven peaks (if possible on the same routes) and calculated the average: $ 162,139

In addition, there is the cost of flight and equipment. The flights naturally depend on where the individual people are, but one can assume that seven international return flights- often in the high season- cost between $ 7,000 and $ 12,000.

In terms of equipment, a lot specializes and therefore expensive. I used Alan Arnette's trustworthy expertise, combed through the equipment lists of the travel management companies and committed myself to a basic amount of $ 10,000. This is an absolute minimum amount, could - and will probably - be considerably more.

In addition, the approximate number of $ 180,000 does not include any additional courses or training courses that a climber may need. It also does not contain any intermediate mountains like a preliminary eight -thousand meter - such as Cho Oyu or Manaslu - which most climbers should really try before they venture into Everest.

Only individuals can decide which training they need. I have already completed Winterbergsteiger courses and intended to take other alpine courses and climbing courses before going to Denali and Puncak Jaya. I take care of the further training on eight -thousanders when I win the lottery.

So far I have climbed the "cheap" and "simple" Seven Summits: Kilimanjaro 2010, Elbrus 2017 and Aconcagua 2020. They were relatively easy to reach and did not require any advanced mountaineering skills or special training that also contributed to keeping the costs comparatively low.

aconcagua South America 6.961 m (22,838 feet) Simply

results

  • The average costs for climbing all seven peaks are $ 162,139
  • climbing with the British outfit Jagged Globe is the cheapest of the five companies that we rated $ 137,572. However, this is partially due to the current weakness of the pound (£).
  • The most expensive that I assessed was $ 174,700 at the RMI Expeditions based in America.
  • By mixing and adapting management companies, I was able to reduce the number to $ 135,909.
  • By using local guide outfits on Kilimanjaro, Elbrus, Aconcagua and Puncak Jaya and by mixing and adapting guide companies on the remaining three culprits, I was able to reduce the price to $ 123,851.
  • The absolutely cheapest way I found was $ 97,520. This uses local guides and companies, basic support packages and dispenses with many of the luxury and security systems that are provided by more established companies and support packages.
  • In addition, climbers have to plan ($ 7,000 to $ 12,000), equipment (at least $ 10,000) and additional training.

Seven peaks cost with guides

Apart from professional mountaineers, it can be assumed that the majority of climbers will hire the mountain guide to help them climb most - if not all - the seven peaks.

For many climbers it is reasonably plausible to climb the simpler peak of Kilimanjaro, Elbrus and Aconcagua without the full logistical support of a mountain guide company (although all mountaineers on Kili have to climb with a licensed mountain guide).

The harder peaks from Denali, Puncak Jaya, Vinson and Everest, however, almost certainly require the support of a mountain guide company.

Of course there are dozens of professional tour guides all over the world, and it can be possible to achieve a lower price.

The cheapest way to climb the Seven Summits

The prices below are calculated on the assumption that climbers use local providers and guides if possible, only pay for basic support packages and are willing to climb on many sections of all routes without outside help.

The numbers are based on the cheapest - mostly fastest - routes on the mountain. As above, the numbers are without flight costs, equipment and additional training programs.

Note: We do not recommend this option and only take on the sake of completeness.

Elbrus 1.520
aconcagua 4,000
denali 8,500
Puncak Jaya 7,500
