50 years of freedom: Buon Ma Thuot celebrates with a big coffee festival!
On May 21, 2025, the 50th anniversary of the Buon Ma Thuot Victory was celebrated, a significant event in the history of Vietnam. The victory on March 10, 1975 was considered a turning point, marking the beginning of the 1975 Spring Offensive and Uprising. Various events honored the victims who fought for the country's independence and freedom.
As part of the commemoration, various rituals were carried out, including incense offering ceremonies and visits to the Provincial Martyrs' Cemetery. The ceremonies at the Buon Ma Thuot National Memorial were a central part of the celebrations. A Defense Ministry scientific conference was also held to examine the victory in the Central Highlands and developments in Dak Lak over the past 50 years.
Events and celebrations
The 9th Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival 2025, held as part of the celebration, highlighted the central role of coffee in the province's economy. The fair during the festival recorded 435 booths from 180 national and international companies, resulting in a total of 30 contracts worth over VND 10 billion. Over 250,000 visitors, including around 1,800 international guests, took part in this important festival.
An online 50th anniversary competition attracted 754,328 entries, with 77.7% of participants from the province and 22.3% from other parts of Vietnam. In addition, 18 memorandums of understanding for cooperation between Vietnamese companies and importers from China and Korea were signed, strengthening international trade relations.
Important highlights of the festival
A standout event of the festival was the laying of the foundation stone of the Trung Nguyen Legend Energy Coffee Factory and other important projects. The presence of the General Director of the International Coffee Organization emphasized the international position of Vietnamese coffee. In addition, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism awarded Dak Lak the certificate for “Knowledge of Coffee Cultivation and Processing” and recognized this area as a national intangible cultural heritage.
The festival's international trade conference attracted over 730 delegates and promoted exchanges on market trends and international standards. Nearly 90 papers were given at the scientific conference, both to honor traditions and to discuss strategic directions for the future. This combination of memories and future-oriented discussions makes the celebrations an impressive experience for everyone involved and underlines the importance of Buon Ma Thuot in Vietnamese coffee culture.
In conclusion, the 50th anniversary of the Buon Ma Thuot Victory and the 9th Coffee Festival provide a platform for honoring the past as well as promoting economic development and international cooperation. The momentous occasion united people in the province and beyond to celebrate the achievements of the last 50 years and shape the future of Vietnamese coffee.
