TUI opens first hotel in Japan: Suneo Otaru expects guests in 2029!

TUI Group today announced the signing of its first hotel management contract in Japan. The new location, TUI Suneo Otaru, will open in 2029, bringing the company's hotel brands to the land of the rising sun for the first time. This commitment aims to expand the range of holiday experiences in Asia and attract new customers, as TUI CEO Sebastian Ebel explains.

The TUI Suneo Otaru location is in the immediate vicinity of the JR Minami Otaru Station and just 35 minutes from Sapporo. Otaru itself is known for its historical and modern attractions, including the famous Otaru Canal, the Steam Clock Tower and the Sakaimachi shopping street. The hotel will be a valuable point of contact for travelers at these attractions.

Hotel offer and expansion plans

The new hotel will have 50 rooms, a lobby lounge, a restaurant, a bar and a gym. Future plans include expansion with additional rooms and common areas. Peter Krueger, CEO of the TUI Group, also announced that the company is considering additional hotel locations in Japan.

TUI is currently active in eight Asian countries and already operates 25 hotels. With the new project in Otaru and planned openings in Vietnam and China by the end of 2025, TUI Group aims to double its presence in the region.

Attractions in Otaru

Otaru offers a variety of attractions that attract tourists. These include the Otaru City Museum, which presents interesting exhibitions about the history and nature of Hokkaido. Other cultural highlights include the Sumiyoshi Shrine, which worships the Sumiyoshi god, and the Otaru Museum of Art, which highlights the history of art in the region.

Another notable structure is the former Mitsui Bank branch, which is an important cultural asset and is known as part of the historic town of Otaru. Nature lovers will find Tengu Mountain, which is 532.5 m high, a popular recreational area that also houses a ski resort.

With all these attractive aspects, TUI Suneo Otaru will not only be a first-class accommodation for those visiting the city, but also an important part of the tourism infrastructure that has the potential to further bring Otaru into the spotlight of the international travel world.
