Winterthur couple is involved in a world tour with a heart: socially global!

Winterthur, Schweiz - On April 1, 2024, the young couple Siddhi Roth and Lukas Gentner from Winterthur opened an extraordinary world tour. The two, both 31 years old, had extensively planned their trip and integrated several social projects into their adventure. Siddhi, who was born in India and adopted by a Swiss family, found a way to get closer to her roots on the trip. Lukas, on the other hand, had not thought of leaving Switzerland before the trip, but quickly felt attracted to the idea of a global discovery.

Before leaving, they took part in a self -defense course and prepared cards with important words for the respective countries. Her first stop led her to Iceland, where you enjoyed a tour for two weeks. Then they traveled to the USA and South America, where they worked for an NGO project in Peru. While Siddhi looked after children, Lukas was involved in a sanctuary for wild animals. These experiences were part of the initiative, which encouraged social commitment-voluntary services that participants work free of charge abroad in non-profit projects, as described at Deutsche-im-ausland.org.

insights into different cultures

Siddhi and Lukas expanded their language skills in Spanish as part of their trip, which was of great benefit to them at the other stations. After Peru, her second NGO project took place in the south of Africa, where they worked on a reserve. There they counted animals and helped combat invasive plant species. In November they traveled through Asia for four weeks, visited countries such as Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos. These cultural experiences left permanent impressions and changed their worldview, especially the contrast between life in Switzerland and South America.

The state of Bali, through whom he praised the hospitality of the residents, was particularly impressive for Lukas Gentner. They discovered architectural beauties in North Africa, while Canada impressed. A highlight of her trip was the sunset in the salt desert of Argentina. Culinary, they did not find the best food in Peru, where they tried guinea pigs ("Cuy"), but in Thailand, India and Arabic mezze.

plans for the future

In South Africa, Siddhi and Lukas experienced an unexpected surprise when they were robbed by monkeys that enter their tent and stole their medication box. Despite this small adverseness, the couple remains optimistic and plans to travel Europe in the near future. Siddhi also expressed the desire to found an organization to give something back to people - further proof of the sustainable effect of their trip.

Voluntary services not only offer the travelers, but also the communities in the operational countries valuable support. The locations include regions in Latin America, Africa, Asia and Russia and mean an opportunity for many to actively help. The willingness to get socially committed is also reflected in the experiences of Siddhi and Lukas, which received significant insights into the different cultures and social structures.
