Where to Stay on Koh Tao – Accommodation Guide

There are several options for travelers who want to stay on the island of Koh Tao. In general, most people like to stay near Sairee Beach to be close to all the highlights and activities. However, you can also stay near Mae Head or a little further up the mountain from Sairee.

How to get to the Secret Sunset Viewpoint on Koh Tao

To reach the secret sunset viewpoint on Koh Tao, you need to head towards Dusit Bancha Resort. This resort is located in the northeast of the island, right in front of Koh Nang Yuan. The secret sunset spot is called Nang Yuan Terrace.

It shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to drive here if you're coming from Sairee Beach. Those staying near Cha Lok can expect a 15-20 minute drive.

Once you reach the resort you will need to park your moped in the parking lot above. Walk down into the resort until you reach a restaurant overlooking the water. Although I haven't eaten here yet, it's certainly an epic place to have dinner or drink a few beers. If you're like me and like to stick to a measly backpacker budget, just walk around or through the restaurant until you reach a set of stairs that lead to the water.

Nang Yuan Terrace Viewpoint

Once you reach the viewpoint, you can relax on the terrace or walk on the rocks to the water's edge. During the three months I spent on Koh Tao, we often visited this sunset spot after a day of diving.

You'll be rewarded with panoramic views of Koh Nang Yuan and the island's sunset right next to it. You can also look towards Sairee while watching the nightlife as the sunsets flare up.

Arrival to Nang Yuan Island from Nang Yuan Terrace

During the day, you can also reach Nang Yuan Island from this location. Although the boaters are geared towards higher budget travelers who may be staying at the hotel, it is the quickest place to reach the double-headed island.

Longtail boats operate at this place to pick up tourists. I haven't tried getting to Koh Nang Yan from this location, but depending on how busy they are you may be able to negotiate a drop off rate for the same cost as Sairee Beach. This should not be more than 150 baht per boat.

Alternative: Sunset SUPs on Sairee Beach

If you want to see the best sunset spot from the water, it is also possible to rent a SUP anywhere on Sairee. If you're confident, paddling to this spot offers an even better view of the sunrise.

Fly a drone from the viewpoint to Koh Nang Yuan

If you brought a drone to Koh Tao, you might be tempted to fly it over Koh Nang Yuan. In my opinion, the best place to fly it is from this secret sunset viewpoint. This is because it is generally always quiet and you will not be inconvenienced while flying.
