Da Nang: Workshop to Strengthen MICE Tourism in Vietnam!
On May 17, 2025, a major workshop was held in Da Nang, to which representatives from the city's People's Committee and the Vietnam Tourism Association were invited. Numerous experts were also present, including heads of relevant departments and branches in Da Nang and Quang Nam, as well as domestic and foreign experts. This workshop also gathered numerous participants from the hotel and travel industry, including MICE Famtrip groups and specialized travel agencies from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The focus of the event was the five-year review of the development of the City Tourism Development Promotion Fund, the first social fund model in Vietnam's tourism sector.
The main aim of the workshop was to develop a strategic vision and new initiatives to improve Da Nang's competitiveness and sustainable development. The Chairman of the People's Committee emphasized the need for solid preparation of the tourism industry in view of the merger of Quang Nam and Da Nang. Experts shared the opportunities and challenges associated with Da Nang's brand positioning and tourism market. After the merger, Da Nang is considered one of Vietnam's leading tourist centers, known for its significant natural and cultural resources.
Strategic initiatives and collaboration
The key topics of the workshop included brand positioning, strengthening links in the service supply chain and planning tourist areas after the administrative merger. In this context, the establishment of the Da Nang Event Destination Association (DECA) was also announced by the Da Nang Tourism Association, which brings together leading MICE travel companies in Da Nang and Quang Nam and promotes cooperation to create a high-quality MICE service ecosystem.
Another notable signal of the emerging MICE tourism in central Vietnam is the recent arrival in Da Nang of a MICE group of 226 guests from Thailand. The almost same-period Tamil Entrepreneurs Conference, to be held on February 21-22, 2025, will also attract 300 international guests from more than 30 countries including India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore and South Africa. The CTM Asia Conference and All Stars Awards 2025 will be organized in Da Nang between February 26 and 28, attracting about 70 experts from the fields of MICE and leisure and resort tourism.
Infrastructure developments and future prospects
The events organized by Corporate Travel Management draw on growing interest from business partners and sponsors from various sectors, including global distribution systems, airlines, hotels and tourism authorities. The choice of Da Nang as host city underlines the increasing attractiveness of this region in the MICE tourism sector. In terms of infrastructure, Hoiana plans to build a conference center with a capacity for 3,000 people, which will potentially enable future-oriented expansions to meet MICE market demand.
Quang Nam Province, which has two UNESCO World Heritage Sites as well as numerous luxury resorts and rich resources, plays a central role in promoting MICE tourism. Hotels actively operating in this segment include Bellerive Hoi An Resort & Spa, Hoiana, Vinpearl Resort & Golf Nam Hoi An and Citadines Pearl Hoi An. The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism plans to develop pilot mechanisms for recruiting MICE tourists and foreign wedding groups in 2025 in collaboration with relevant departments and local authorities. This initiative is part of the province's comprehensive tourism product development plan, which is expected to extend to 2030.
These developments in Da Nang and Quang Nam clearly demonstrate that the region is actively working to improve its position in MICE tourism and is ready to face the challenges and opportunities of the global market. The commitment of authorities and companies could help Da Nang become one of the leading MICE centers in Vietnam.
