Chiang Rai beach - the best place to swim in Chiang Rai
Chiang Rai beach - the best place to swim in Chiang Rai
Wait, Chiang Rai has a beach? Well, Chiang Rai Beach is not a typical Thai beach. Here you will not find longtail boats, white sandy beaches or turquoise water lined with coconut palms. To be honest, this place is not even a beach, but simply a seaside resort on the river bank, which is popular with locals and tourists who visit Chiang Rai. Well, they are in the mountains!
However, if you are looking for a place where you can cool off in the hotter months, or if you want to find a place in Chiang Rai where you can relax, the beach of Chiang Rai may be just right for you.
Book your trip to Chiang Rai
cheap flights bay you still in the planning phase of your trip? The best and easiest way to find cheap flights is currently using Momondo and Skyscanner. Between the two you are always guaranteed to find the cheapest flight, all over the world. Book your accommodation for hostels, hotels, pensions or resorts between Booking.com and Agoda, you always get the best offers. I always look for the card function to find accommodation in the best places. You can also search for the card system, which is great if you are looking for a place near Chiang Rai's beach. Sometimes, if I want to stay in one place a little longer, I also use Airbnb. Tours and transport booking already know that I prefer independent trips. Sometimes it is the best and cheapest way to do things, just book a tour or package. For Thailand I always use Klook and Viator. In order to find cheaper means of transport in Thailand such as buses, trains and ferries, you can also visit 12Goasia. Do not forget adventure travel insurance If you read this blog, you are probably more looking for adventures with a sip at the pool. After my entire bag was stolen in Barcelona (including camera equipment), I swore to always have travel insurance. My two favorite options for adventure travelers are safewing and World Nomads. The Chiang Rai Beach is located on the river bank of the KOK River, just outside the city near the Queen Sikrit Park.
To get here, a 15-minute drive or drive from the center of Chiang Rai is required.
You can either drive yourself here if you have rented a scooter or alternatively take a tuk tuk or Songthaew. The costs for the trip from the Chiang Rai city center are around 50 baht.

What you can expect on the beach of Chiang Rai
As I mentioned, Chiang Rai Beach is not a typical “beach” in Thailand. Strangely, however, you can still find these typical Thai tourism clichés on the coast, including massage huts and restaurants!
There are high and rugged rock formations and a Buddha statue that rests on a rock on the other side of the river bank. The entire scene is relaxing and beautiful. Since I prefer nature to the hustle and bustle of city life (even the tame Chiang Rai), I found that this place is my favorite place to spend time in the city.
When I first visited Chiang Rai beach, he was relatively quiet and remote. I noticed that most of the small shops were not in operation there, which meant that I had the entire "beach" or the river bank for myself.
In the following visits, however, I met other backpackers and travelers who were run down in the early afternoon to relax and cool in the freshly flowing river water. The water flow was calm enough to swim in it, although they have to be careful when it rains.Alt = “Chiang Rai Strand Kok River Thailand”>

Wat Tham Phra (Buddha-Höhlentempel)
On the opposite side of the Chiang Rai beach, you will find a small Buddha-Höhlentempel, which is known as Wat Tham Phra. The cave itself has a fairly small cave where there is not much more than a single Buddha statue.
Here are also a few cheeky monkeys hanging around, so take care of your things!
