The Mae Yen waterfall is an epic jungle water case near the peaceful mountain town of Pai in Thailand. If you are looking for epic day trip adventures or short independent hikes in Pai, then the Mae Yen waterfall is perhaps just the thing for you!
The way to the waterfall is an adventure in itself. Although the hike is pretty simple, it takes at least two hours for a distance. On the way you pass banana plantations, jungle flow systems and incredible landscapes in northern Thailand.

The best way to get to the Mae Yen waterfall is to rent a motorcycle in Pai and drive to the beginning of the hiking trail. As far as I know, there are no guided hikes to Mae Yen, so you have to tackle them alone.

The starting point of the Mae Yen waterfall
The starting point of the Mae Yen waterfall is located next to a campsite called "Wunderland Camping", about 10 minutes from Pai. You can find it marked on the map below, or you can alternatively search for "Mae Yen Waterfall Hiking Trail".
As soon as you have arrived at the campsite, you can park your motorcycle and cross the first river next to the campsite. The first crossing gives a small foretaste of what awaits you along the way!

My Strava: Visit
To Chiang Rai? Don't miss my favorite waterfall: Mae Sai Waterfall
Mae-Yen waterfall
Although it is less popular than other waterfalls in the area, it is the best waterfall in Pai in my opinion! As soon as you arrive, enter a beautiful jungle oasis that is surrounded by steep, moss -covered rock walls.
The Mae Yen waterfall actually consists of three steep levels that result in small pools. The lower Bool is quite flat and definitely does not allow cliff jumping or diving. However, you probably want to make the best of it by cooling down in the fresh flowing waters.
If you are careful, it is possible to climb the right side of the waterfall in order to sit in a small, hip -high basin at the bottom of the second river. You have to be careful because it is very slippery and remember to keep an eye out for changes in the conditions.
