How to come to the Abandoned Resort on Koh Tao

The Abandoned Resort on Koh Tao is hidden on the quiet Laem Thian Beach on the eastern corner of Koh Tao.

To get to the abandoned resort, you have to hike through the jungle hills and cross small local island villages. It takes about an hour to get there from Jitsin, and there is a rough dirt road all the way.

How to get to the abandoned resort

The hike begins about 1 km east of the General Sairee Beach area. Drive up to the smile Mart and pass asia divers on the way. You have to go to the Tarna Align Hotel, where you can park your motorcycle and start hike.

When you arrive at the hotel, you have to go up the hill and keep the hotel on your left side. You will notice an unpaved road that leads straight into the jungle and hill. This is the street that you have to follow all of the path until you reach the abandoned resort.

There are several misleading paths on both sides along the route. However, the best advice is to just go straight and not drive curves. After about an hour on foot over the mountain, you will notice the abandoned bungalows and buildings. You made it to Koh Tao to the abandoned resort.

A short story

Little is known about why the resort was abandoned. However, locals have indicated that it did not have the best reputation before closing. This, together with the sad state of the field path that leads to the resort, could have led to it was simply too difficult to keep it open.

Tripadvisor reviews seem to indicate that the Laem Thian Resort was given up at some point around 2014. The location is very remote and it is difficult to understand how they provided tourists with regular boat transfers.

What to do in the Abandoned Resort

, as soon as you arrive in the abandoned resort, you will explore the decaying suites with sea views and the hanging jungle bungalows. You can visit the old kitchen and the reception that are still provided with the Free WiFi sign.

Remember to be respectful, because although it is abandoned, it is still private ownership. If you know enough about Koh Tao, you know how important it is not to upset the wrong person.
