100 years of the press: Journalists explore life on Truong Sa!
A significant celebration of the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day was held on May 30, 2025. To mark this special event, the Navy, in collaboration with the Vietnam Journalists Association, organized a delegation trip to the islands in the Truong Sa Archipelago. This trip, which took place from May 23 to 29, included a total of 100 participants, including journalists, naval officers, soldiers and artists.
The delegation was led by Colonel Do Hong Duyen and journalist Le Quoc Minh. During the journey of more than 1,000 nautical miles, participants visited various islands, including Da Thi, Sinh Ton, Co Lin, Len Dao, Da Tay (A), Truong Sa Lon and platform DK1/19. The journalists documented the lives of the people on these islands, who exude remarkable optimism despite numerous challenges.
Life on the islands
Reports from the archipelago highlight the difficulties faced by residents, including a lack of fresh water and arable land. To address these challenges, islanders have adopted rainwater harvesting and tank systems. In addition, the islands now have wind and solar energy systems that contribute to improving living conditions.
The delegation took part in memorial ceremonies for fallen soldiers and presented 1,400 national flags and nearly 40 scholarships to students. Souvenir photos with soldiers and local authorities were also taken. Soldiers on the islands have access to libraries, gyms and cultural facilities, improving their quality of life.
Media support and national sovereignty
The delegation also received support from various media and companies amounting to VND1.7 billion for the construction of CQ-01 boats. The visit to platform DK1/19 was also carried out despite adverse weather conditions. The aim of the trip was to promote a better understanding and appreciation of the lives and challenges of the people of Truong Sa. The collected reports and articles are intended to strengthen love for Truong Sa and awareness of national sovereignty.
In addition to the event in Truong Sa Archipelago, the 97th anniversary of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press Day was celebrated on June 21, 2022. On this day, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MOCST) sent congratulations and visited press institutions to recognize their important role in the fields of culture, sports and tourism. Minister Nguyen Van Hung emphasized the importance of the press and expressed the wish for the progressive development of press agencies in Vietnam.
Overall, these events demonstrate the commitment of the Vietnamese press and its essential role in making the lives of the people on the islands visible and promoting the country's culture. For more information on these topics, see the articles from vietnam.vn and moitruongdulich.vn.
