Educational trip to Ha Giang: Is digital transformation on the brink?

The Department of Education of Vinh Cuu District in Dong Nai Province has launched a remarkable initiative aimed at gaining experience on digital transformation in education. A trip to Ha Giang Province has been planned for June 3-7, 2025, covering a distance of over 1,900 km. Managers and specialists from the ministry, as well as directors and deputy directors of preschools, kindergartens and middle schools take part in this exchange. This measure is part of efforts to improve digital transformation and STEM education in the region reports Vietnam.vn.

Control over the travel costs lies with the Vinh Cuu District People's Committee, which provides the financial resources. A contract with a travel company covers transportation and accommodation costs for the participants. While many teachers have already signed up for the trip, some have expressed concerns as to why the knowledge transfer cannot take place on site in Dong Nai instead of making a long journey to Ha Giang.

Travel plans and educational goals

The schedule for the trip has already been communicated to the schools. The study group plans to visit two schools in Ha Giang while also visiting some tourist destinations such as Dong Van Stone Plateau and Ban Gioc Waterfall. This combination of education and tourism is intended to not only offer participants new perspectives on digital transformation, but also strengthen their connection to STEM education.

Regarding concerns about the trip, the chairman of the Vinh Cuu District People's Committee has called for a report on the consolidation of self-financing, leading to the immediate halt to travel plans. The deputy head of the Ministry of Education and Training criticized the trip as inappropriate and called on schools and teachers to reconsider taking part in the trip.

Wider STEM education initiatives

These events also reflect a larger trend in the education landscape, particularly Germany's STEM education strategy. With the MINT Action Plan 2.0, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research is pursuing a holistic approach to promoting MINT measures along the entire education chain. These include initiatives such as “House of Little Researchers” and national competitions such as “Jugend forscht” reports bildung-forschung.digital.

A central part of this strategy is the establishment of the “MINTvernetzt” networking center, which aims to improve MINT educational offerings through exchange, advice and practical tips. The “5-point plan for more MINT skills” includes five key actions that promote cooperation between school and extracurricular activities as well as the involvement of families in the MINT area.

The combination of these measures shows the commitment to both driving forward the digital transformation in education and actively promoting MINT education in order to meet the challenges of the future.
