A Life for Journalism: Huynh Dung Nhan's Impressive Career!
Huynh Dung Nhan, a versatile author and journalist, has made a significant contribution to Vietnamese literature and press over the past 40 years. With more than 30 published literary and journalistic books, he has made a name for himself and taken on numerous positions within journalism. These include the deputy head of the professional department of the Vietnamese Journalists Association, the vice president of the Ho Chi Minh City Journalists Association and the role of editor-in-chief of the Journalism magazine.
In addition to being a journalist, Nhan is also a teacher and is dedicated to inspiring young journalists. Particularly noteworthy is his report “Vietnam – a journey”, which was created during a conference in Quang Tri province. He is currently working on an essay about the report “40 Years of Renewal” and is examining the creation and development process of the Vietnamese report.
Research and variety of topics
His work covers a variety of topics, including the history of journalism during the French colonial period and the trends in reportage. He also sheds light on the reportage genre in its early stages and introduces famous writers and journalists such as Tam Lang, Nguyen Dinh Lap, Long Chuong and Vu Trong Phung. A central concern is also the question: “Why is reporting so strong in the age of innovation?”
Nhan has used the reportage form in many of his press releases, focusing on “real people and real events.” His extensive research and the creative preparation of his book make it a valuable work that comprises almost 200 pages. Particularly impressive is the inclusion of investigative reports that won the A Prize of the National Press Award between 2006 and 2024.
Creative expressions
Due to a stroke, Nhan spent a lot of time at home and on planes and used this time to draw portraits of figures. This reflects his commitment and his tireless way of working. Le Quoc Minh praised Nhan as a multi-talented person and emphasized his tireless efforts in journalism.
Additionally, a current exhibition at the Vietnam Women's Museum features portrait paintings of female journalists, highlighting the influence and role of women in Vietnam's media landscape. This representation of the female perspective is an important step towards recognizing both genders in journalism. For more information about the exhibition visit Nhân Dân.
