Film premiere in Thai Nguyen: De Men inspires audiences and tourism!
On May 26, a remarkable project reporting program and film screening “De Men: Adventures in Swamp Village” was held in Thinh Dan District of Thai Nguyen City. The event was organized by the Thai Nguyen Provincial Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and attracted a number of prominent personalities, including Mr. Trinh Viet Hung, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee. This initiative represents a significant step in promoting local culture and creative industries.
The film “De Men: Adventures in the Swamp” is the first product of the new digital film studio model, created through a collaboration between the Information and Communication Technology University of Thai Nguyen University and CinePlus Film Studio. Mr. Ha Anh Son, a representative of Vietnam Digital Film Studio Joint Stock Company, expressed optimism about the prospects of a thriving film industry in Thai Nguyen.
A film full of local culture
The film plot is based on the prose work “The Adventures of a Cricket” by the well-known writer To Hoai and follows the brothers De Men and De Trui on their adventures in the swamp village. The film places great emphasis on themes such as friendship and cohesion. During the premiere, the audience was visibly enthusiastic about the work, which features typical images of Thai Nguyen, such as the picturesque tea hills and the diverse natural landscape. These elements were specifically integrated to promote local culture and tourism.
The digital studio created as part of the project plays a central role in the production of animation and digital content. It represents an important link between technology, education, culture and tourism. The promotion of the film is also intended to support the construction of a film industry park, which will further highlight the cultural values of the region.
The challenges of digital media art
While local film projects advance, other cultural areas face challenges in preserving digital artworks. The material culture of the 20th and 21st centuries, particularly works that use electronic and digital technologies, is fragile. A symposium that invites international experts will shed light on the current state of restoration of electronic arts. Many of these works are facing permanent loss.
Artists have increasingly used electronic technologies since the 1960s, but these works are now at acute risk as they have reached a technically critical age. Videotapes are decaying, and many video art installations may no longer be exhibitable in less than two decades. In addition, the production of cathode ray monitors stopped worldwide about ten years ago, meaning that spare parts are no longer available.
Artists and institutions are confronted with a lack of resources and expertise, which has long-term consequences for the cultural self-image of a society shaped by digital media. Preserving these digital works of art therefore becomes an urgent task that requires significant support and innovative solutions.
The focus is therefore on both the promotion of regional culture through innovative film projects and the preservation of digital works of art, with developments in Thai Nguyen and the challenges at the international level providing important food for thought.
