Culture in digital change: Committee for transformation founded!
Vietnam - On June 10, 2025, the Minister of Culture, Sport and Tourism in Vietnam decided to set up an editorial committee. This committee has the order to develop the "project for digital transformation in the cultural sector". Under the direction of Mr. Phan Tam, the deputy minister, the committee is supported by a large number of experts and representatives of various ministries to shape the digital future of Vietnamese culture. The editorial committee consists of 24 members, including experts and scientists who are responsible for the organization and development of the project and have to report to the head of the committee and their respective agency. In addition to the tour of Phan Tam, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoang Lan, as a constant deputy chairman of the board, takes on a central role, supported by Mr. Le Hong Phong and Ms. Mai Thuy Huong as another deputy board member.
The committee has the responsibility to ensure quality assurance of the project and regularly provide reports to the minister. The digital transformation is not only a technical project, but also requires a fundamental reorientation within the cultural areas to ensure that the digital strategies are clearly formulated and coordinated.
The challenges of digital transformation
This initiative is in line with the recent recommendations for action by the Conference of Ministers of Culture for the digital transformation in the cultural sector, which were adopted on October 11, 2023. The recommendations were derived from a study commissioned by the state cultural foundation. The chairman of the Conference of Culture Ministers, Falko Mohrs, emphasizes that the central challenges are primarily in the creation of a coherent digital strategy and internal culture.
The recommendations cover several fields of action, including:
- strategy and goals
- Exchange and networking
- funding measures
- Personnel and internal culture
- Community Building and Audience Development
- digital infrastructures
- measurement and evaluation
- Artificial intelligence (KI)
These aspects are crucial for the development of a resilient and dynamic cultural sector in the digital era. Mohrs emphasizes that the focus should be less on technical challenges, but rather on the ability to organize and create a new thinking that is necessary for digital transformation.
The newly established editorial committee in Vietnam, like the recommendations for action by the Conference of Culture Ministers, will serve as a platform to support the cultural institutions in the implementation of these digital strategies and to successfully promote digital transformation. He will also ensure that agencies can create the optimal conditions for the members of the committee in order to advance the digital transformation in the cultural sector while he will dissolve after completing his tasks.
