Press Cup 2025: Journalists in football fever before Super Cup against Thailand!
The announcement ceremony of the 9th National Press Cup 2025 was held in Hanoi on May 19th. This competition, organized by Vietnam Family Magazine organized in collaboration with the press department of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, celebrates significant anniversaries. On the one hand, the 100th anniversary of the Vietnamese revolutionary press (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025) is celebrated, and on the other hand, the Press Cup also marks the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).
Ho Minh Chien, editor-in-chief of Vietnam Family Magazine, heads the organizing committee and emphasizes the importance of the Press Cup for sports culture among journalists. After eight seasons since its inception, the tournament has become a key event for media representatives. The 2025 Press Cup final will be held in Tu Son, Bac Ninh from June 5th to 7th.
Format and structure of the competition
Overall, the eight best teams from the preliminary round will take part in the tournament. For the first time, exchange activities will also be carried out with colleagues from Southeast Asia. This is a step towards internationalization and strengthening networks among journalists. The Press Cup 2025 will thus become a platform that not only promotes sporting competitiveness, but also strengthens cultural exchange between countries.
In addition, the opening of the 2025 South Press Cup will take place on May 21 at 8 a.m. at Phú Thọ Stadium in Ho Chi Minh City. In this qualifying round, a total of eight teams from central and local media will compete against each other in two groups:

The top two teams from this round qualify for the national finals in Từ Sơn, Bắc Ninh. The participants will not only fight for victory, but also for attractive prizes: the winner will receive a trophy, a flag, a gold medal and 15 million VND, while the second place will receive a silver medal and 8 million VND, and the third place will receive a bronze medal and 5 million VND. Additional awards will be given out for top scorer, best goalkeeper, best referee team and best fair play award, with VND2 million each on the line.
Super Cup against Thailand
The highlight of the Press Cup, however, is the subsequent friendly match on June 10 at My Dinh Stadium, pitting the national press champions against the Thai Press Association. This duel is intended to not only showcase sporting rivalry, but also serve as a celebration of the journalistic community in both countries. The event therefore contributes to promoting sports among journalists and improving cultural life, as part of the “Toàn dân rèn luyện thân thể theo gương Bác Hồ vĩ đại” campaign, which aims to promote the physical fitness of all Vietnamese.
