On June 1, 2025, a new direct route between Nha Trang in Khanh Hoa Province, Vietnam, and Busan in South Korea was opened by Vietnam Airlines. This important opening ceremony was held in the presence of representatives of the airline, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Khanh Hoa Province, and executives of the Nha Trang – Khanh Hoa Tourism Association. The first flight landed at Cam Ranh International Airport at 11:20 a.m. the same day with 186 passengers on board.
The welcoming ceremony for the new passengers included festive activities such as water spraying ceremonies, gift distribution and traditional art performances, which provided a warm welcome to the Korean tourists who were delighted to arrive in Khanh Hoa. Vietnam Airlines' new offering aims to connect Korea with Vietnam's major coastal tourism centers and increase demand for Korean travelers to Khanh Hoa.
Details about the new flight route
Vietnam Airlines uses Airbus A321 on the Busan – Cam Ranh route and plans a frequency of one flight per day. This new connection brings the total number of flights between Vietnam and South Korea to over 50 per week and is part of the airline's international expansion strategy. Vietnam Airlines aims to promote economic and tourism cooperation between Vietnam and South Korea.
The Nha Trang – Busan route is the sixth direct connection and expands Vietnam Airlines' network in Northeast Asia. Other existing routes include Hanoi – Seoul, Ho Chi Minh City – Seoul and Da Nang – Seoul. Vietnam Airlines operates an average of 16 flights per day between Vietnam and South Korea.
Growth in the tourism sector
In the first four months of 2025, Vietnam Airlines already carried around 479,500 passengers on routes between Vietnam and Korea. In particular, South Korea was the largest international tourism market for Vietnam in 2024, with approximately 4.5 million arrivals, accounting for 26% of all international visitors. In Khanh Hoa, Korean visitors make up almost 50% of international guests. Additionally, Khanh Hoa Province welcomed more than 812,800 Korean visitors in the first four months of this year, an increase of 6.5% compared to last year.
Vietnam Airlines plans to open or restore a total of 15 new international routes by the end of 2025, indicating the ever-growing demand in international air travel. These measures are intended to further increase connectivity between the two countries and increase the attractiveness of Vietnam as a travel destination.
