Bruckner celebrates with a reading: Dickschädel's Travels in Windhaag!

On Thursday, June 5th, there will be a special reading at the Green Belt Center in Windhaag. The author Florian Sedmak will read from his book “Dickschädel’s Travels – Through Upper Austria with Anton Bruckner”. The occasion is Anton Bruckner's 200th birthday, which will be celebrated in 2024. The event is hosted by the Anton Bruckner Salon and begins at 7 p.m. Sedmak will accompany the reading with music from the gold ribbon bearers. Entry is on a voluntary donation basis.

Florian Sedmak, a lyricist and music lover, is not only familiar with the Upper Austria region, but is also a passionate musician. He played in the hardcore band Kurort and toured Europe. In his book, Sedmak illuminates Bruckner's travels through Upper Austria and describes over 30 places that are connected to the composer. These trips, characterized by bowling, carousing, feasting and playing the organ, often took place under difficult circumstances.

The figure Anton Bruckner

Bruckner, who was known as the “fathead,” is portrayed by Sedmak from a very personal perspective. The nickname describes both his living conditions and character traits. The reading offers insights into Bruckner's life, including his romantic relationship with a daughter of the innkeeper Wimmer, who dedicated the lost composition "The Rose" to him. Bruckner's mother, Theresia Helm, was born in 1801 in the Zum Krößwang inn in Neuzeug, which provides a further connection to the places visited.

The cultural roots of Landler, a traditional Upper Austrian dance and music form, are also discussed. The Landler was declared an intangible world cultural heritage in 2013 and is known for his sharp ridicule, which often led to rivalries and violence. This adds an exciting dimension to Bruckner's character and the times in which he lived.

Insight into the work

The book will be published by Anton Pustet in 2024 and costs 25 euros. Sedmak's interest in the region and the cultural aspects is also reflected in his work on the found footage documentary “Innere Blutungen” from 2013, which focuses on everyday life in the Salzkammergut between 1965 and 1975.

Overall, the reading promises not only a literary examination of Bruckner's travels, but also a musical homage to a great composer who went his own way despite his challenges. The event date is approaching and is arousing the interest of the general public.
