25 years of Autostadt: A bright anniversary full of surprises!

The Autostadt in Wolfsburg is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Opened on June 1, 2000 as part of the Expo, the location has developed into an outstanding tourist highlight. To date, over 48 million guests have visited the Autostadt, underlining its appeal as a cultural impulse generator and automotive delivery center. A total of almost 3.5 million new vehicles from the Volkswagen, SEAT and CUPRA brands were delivered during this time, making the Autostadt one of the largest automotive delivery centers in the world.

Gunnar Kilian, chairman of the Autostadt supervisory board, emphasizes the innovative ideas and excellent service that contribute to the attractiveness of the place. The management emphasizes the important role of employees, partners and companions in the ongoing success. The Autostadt offers a variety of events, including international dance companies, concerts with world stars and impressive water shows. The gastronomic offering ranges from the popular Volkswagen Currywurst to the star cuisine in the Aqua Restaurant.

Light production for the anniversary

Numerous celebrations are on the program in the anniversary year, including a large summer festival that will feature 34 top acts and a colorful family program from July 4th to August 17th, 2025. There will also be an impressive light display of the four power station chimneys. This will shine every day from dusk until midnight. The light show alternates between calm and dynamic sequences every quarter of an hour, and creates a varied play of colors through a wide color spectrum.

A total of 96 energy-saving LED spotlights are used for the illumination, 24 of which are installed per chimney. This technology uses 50 percent less energy compared to previous years. Interestingly, the LED headlights were first used as Advent candles during the Winter Wonderland. The lighting comes from both the roof of the power plant and the bank of the harbor basin and promises to delight visitors to the Autostadt with spectacular effects.

From January 2025, the chimneys of the Volkswagen power plant will also be illuminated in the evenings, which will further increase the visual appeal of the Autostadt. The entire anniversary year will therefore offer a varied program that celebrates the long history and future plans of this unique location.
