25 years of the Autostadt: A bright anniversary full of surprises!

The Autostadt in Wolfsburg is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. Opened as part of the Expo on June 1, 2000, the location developed into an outstanding tourist highlight. To date, over 48 million guests have visited the Autostadt, which underlines their attraction as a cultural impulse and automotive delivery center. In total, almost 3.5 million new vehicles of the Volkswagen, Seat and Cupra brands were delivered, which makes the Autostadt one of the largest automotive delivery centers worldwide.

Gunnar Kilian, chairman of the supervisory board of the Autostadt, emphasizes the innovative ideas and excellent service, which contribute to the attractiveness of the place. The management emphasizes the important role of employees, partners and companions for the ongoing success. The Autostadt offers a variety of events, including international dance companies, concerts with world stars and impressive water shows. The gastronomic offer ranges from the popular Volkswagen Currywurst to the star kitchen in the Aqua restaurant.

In the anniversary year there are numerous celebrations on the program, including a large summer festival that comes up with 34 top acts and a colorful family program from July 4 to August 17, 2025. In addition, there will be an impressive lighting staging of the four chimney stones. This will shine daily with darkness until midnight. The light show changes between calm and dynamic sequences every quarter of an hour, and creates a varied play of colors through a wide range of colors.

A total of 96 energy-saving LED headlights are used for illumination, of which are installed per chimney 24. This technology consumes 50 percent less energy compared to previous years. Interestingly, the LED headlights were used as Advent candles for the first time during the Winter Wonderland. The lighting takes place both from the roof of the power plant and from the banks of the harbor basin and promises to inspire visitors to the auto city with spectacular effects.

From January 2025, the chimneys of the Volkswagen Kraftwerk will also be illuminated in the evening, which will further increase the visual attraction of the Autostadt. The entire anniversary year will thus offer a varied program that celebrates the long history and the future plans of this unique location.
