Adventure on two wheels: Emigrants start a dangerous trip to Kosovo!
The two Kosovar emigrants, who had prepared for a big adventure five months ago, have decided to start their journey now due to the current weather conditions. With their decision, they not only show a love for sport, but above all a deep longing for their home in Kosovo. However, the exact route they will take on two wheels remains unknown. Their goal is to arrive as quickly as possible while overcoming the challenges of such an extraordinary journey.
There has been a lot of discussion about the security situation in Kosovo in recent months. This is particularly advisable in the north of the country, in the municipalities of Zubin Potok, Leposavic, Zvecan and North Mitrovica Foreign Office from non-essential travel. The security situation here is tense, which was reflected, among other things, in an explosive attack on a water canal at the end of November 2024, which fortunately left no injuries.
Safety precautions and travel advice
The increased presence of Kosovo police, EULEX and KFOR in the affected areas should help to ensure security. Travelers to these regions should monitor current news and adjust their travel plans if necessary. In addition, security-related incidents can also affect foreigners, so caution is advised. Occasional closures of individual border crossings between Kosovo and Serbia are also possible.
General security awareness is recommended, particularly in Pristina and other larger cities where occasional demonstrations may impact freedom of movement. However, outside these regions the situation is as follows Foreign Office stable and calm.
Travel arrangements and recommendations
Travelers should also note that medical care in Kosovo does not meet German standards. International travel health insurance is therefore strongly recommended. Vaccinations against hepatitis A, B and rabies are recommended, but no compulsory vaccinations when entering from Germany. In addition, medical care is not always available.
With regard to entry requirements, German citizens with a passport, temporary passport, ID card or children's passport are welcome, although no visa is required for stays of up to 90 days. Cash over EUR 10,000 must be declared and the import of goods is subject to certain regulations.
The two emigrants who are now embarking on the demanding journey are aware of the challenges - such as the poor road conditions in many regions, which not only affect the travel time but also require special caution. These aspects of the journey make your journey through the fascinating but complex region even more meaningful and valuable.
