Aby Reisen broke: Vacationers now have to take important steps!

The travel world is once again confronted with bankruptcies of well-known providers. In the last twelve months, three German tour operators, including FTI, We-Flytour and Aby Reisen, have filed for bankruptcy. This situation affects numerous travelers and causes uncertainty when planning their vacation. Travel reporter reports that FTI announced its bankruptcy in the summer of 2024, followed by We-Flytour and the company Aby Reisen, which specifically focuses on graduation trips and graduation trips.

The insolvency of Aby Reisen was officially announced on May 16, 2025 and affects all trips that have not yet begun and are therefore canceled. Affected travelers who have already made payments are insured by the German Travel Insurance Fund (DRSF) and will be informed promptly about the further progress. This fund will contact those affected as soon as the necessary information is available from Aby Reisen.

Challenges for travelers

Aby Reisen's insolvency proceedings follow a difficult phase in which the company filed for insolvency in the summer of 2024 and preliminary insolvency proceedings were ordered in December. Unfortunately, the renovation was unsuccessful, so the official closure has now been completed. For many customers, the question of how they can get their money back remains unclear.

How Focus explains, travelers from the now insolvent providers are struggling with refund problems, especially with regard to FTI. The DRSF has set up various contact options to help affected package travelers, including email, PIN letters, online registrations and contacting the insolvency administrator. These options should definitely be used to request repayments.

Information for those affected

The DRSF hotline can be reached Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on +49 30258987253. Travelers who book package tours should always make sure to obtain a travel insurance certificate and keep it safe in order to be able to assert claims in the event of insolvency.

Despite the challenges posed by these bankruptcies, the DRSF began making the first repayments to affected customers in August 2024. Nevertheless, the insolvency administrator Axel Bierbach reported at the first creditors' meeting in November about the low chances of repayment, which only increases the travelers' worries.
