About Angel’s Billabong and Broken Beach on Nusa Penida

Angel’s Billabong and Broken Beach on Nusa Penida are both unique geological formations. They are unique because they were both formed by millions of years of natural erosion. These two highlights of Nusa Penida attract thousands of visitors here to witness these beautiful natural phenomena.

Broken Beach or Pasih Uug Beach is a rocky archway that emerged from a collapsed sea cave many years ago. The strong tides on Nusa Penida continue to wash beautiful, turquoise water through the arch and into the void every day.

How do I get here?

By far the best way to get to Broken Beach and Angel’s Billabong and explore Nusa Penida is to rent your own motorbike. You can get these at your accommodation or in the many rental shops at the harbor.

A daily rental costs between 50,000 and 70,000 rupiah for a decent scooter.

Alternatively, if you want to avoid the hassle of bartering, you can book it in advance on this website for 50,000 rupiah.

Since these two attractions are in the same “location,” you should go to the pin below. Expect a 35-minute scooter ride from the nearby port of Nusa Penida. As soon as you arrive you will find a clearing where you can park your bike. It costs 10,000 rupiah to park your motorcycle.

Broken Beach – What to Expect

The first attraction you will discover in this destination is Broken Beach. This is a beautiful bay with an archway through which waves break and fill the collapsed sea cave below.

You can walk all the way around the exposed hole or just take a few photos of the archway near the edge.

Below are some photos of Broken Beach that I took on my trip.

Angels Billabong – What to expect

Just around the corner from Broken Beach towards the headland you will find Angel’s Billabong. It takes less than five minutes to walk here.

My tip is to try to get here at low tide as the pools are likely to be under water at high tide!
