Anja Karliczek: New head of the Tourism Committee in the Bundestag!

The CDU politician Anja Karliczek will take over the chairmanship of the Bundestag's tourism committee in the new legislative period. This was already announced on May 16, 2025. Anja Karliczek was born on April 29, 1971 in Ibbenbüren. After graduating from the Goethe-Gymnasium Ibbenbüren in 1990, she completed training as a bank clerk at Deutsche Bank. She then completed her training as a hotel clerk in the family hotel business in 1993, which she managed in a managerial position from 1994 to 2013. During her professional career, she studied business administration at the Hagen Open University from 2003 to 2008, graduating with a degree in business administration.

Political career

Anja Karliczek has been a member of the CDU since 1998 and became chairwoman of the CDU Tecklenburg city association in January 2011. Her political ambitions led her to the Tecklenburg City Council, where she worked from 2004 to 2014, including as parliamentary group leader from 2011 to 2014. In 2013, she became a member of the German Bundestag and held various positions, including in the Finance Committee and as Parliamentary Managing Director of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group from January 2017 to March 2018. From March From 2018 to December 2021 she took over the office of Federal Minister for Education and Research.

Anja Karliczek has currently been a full member of the Tourism Committee and the Environment Committee of the Bundestag since 2021, and she is also a deputy member of the Finance Committee. Her involvement in tourism policy is of considerable importance, especially since she has taken on the role of tourism policy spokesperson for the CDU/CSU parliamentary group since 2021. Most recently, she was elected President of the Catholic German Women's Association (KDFB) in October 2023, a further sign of her commitment to social and political issues.
