Arve Falls Tasmania: Alpine waterfall in the Hartz Mountains
Arve Falls Tasmania: Alpine waterfall in the Hartz Mountains
A short visitor guide for Arve Falls Tasmania. Find out how to get to the Arve Falls in the Hartz Mountains National Park, what awaits you and inspiring photos of my visit.
arve Falls is a very easily accessible waterfall that flows on the Arve River in Hartz Mountains National Park in Tasmania. Although it is not the most impressive waterfall, I would still recommend a visit if you open into the Hartzberge!
In this short guide, I would like to equip you with all the knowledge you need to organize a trip to the Arve Falls. I also added a few photos that I took during my visit.
Where is Arve Falls?
Arve Falls is a small cascade that is fed by the Arve river. There is a parking space at the starting point that enables a short walk to the waterfalls on the Hartz Road, about 85 kilometers south of Hobart.

How do I get here
Unfortunately there are no organized tours or public transport that lead to the Hartz Mountains or to the Arvenfalls. Therefore, the only way to reach this Tasmanic Alpine water case is to drive here yourself.
No matter which direction you come, you first have to drive towards Geeveston. Once there, follow the signs towards the Hartz Mountains and Tahune Adventures up the Arve Road.
About 12 kilometers of the curvy Arvestrasse high you will see a junction to Hartzstrasse (unpaved). Follow this street for about 13 kilometers and you will find a large blue sign for Arve Falls on the left.
The road up to the Hartz Mountains is unpaved, but is well classified. However, it is steep and can freeze in winter. We made it with our big van without any problems, but that day there was no ice on the street.

The Arve Falls Walk
Hiking route: 0.8 kilometers back and forth
Duration: 10 minutes
Höhe: N/A
Difficulty level: very simple
The Arve Falls Walk for the waterfall is one of the shortest and simplest waterfall hikes in which I took part in Tasmania. The short route is very well maintained and has short sections with a wooden footbridge.
There is a section just before the waterfalls, where it crosses a bridge over the Arve river, which is very picturesque.
After about 450 meters along the Arve Falls path from the parking lot, you can reach the Arve Falls. At the bottom there is a special wooden viewing platform, but the view is somewhat covered by the trees.
Alternatively, shortly before the platform there is a very short, leaked path from which I had a clear view of the Arve Falls.

Arve Falls Tasmania
The main case is about 5 meters, so by no means the largest waterfall in Tasmania. However, it is still a picturesque small waterfall that is worth a visit due to the very simple access and the quick return.
As a Alpine area, this area of the Hartz Mountains is often snow -covered in the winter months. Unfortunately, the snow had already melted on my arrival, but it was still a worthwhile stop on the way back from Hartz Peak. However, you can often find photos of Arve Falls online, surrounded by snow, something unique that is not very common for Australian waterfalls.
