Vacation options for 2025 appear diverse and individual, with options ranging from beach and mountain vacations to city breaks and winter vacations. According to a report by Local compass Travelers can decide for themselves whether they want to relax on the beach, explore the mountains or discover the cultural treasures of a city. This flexibility could have a positive effect on vacation planning.
What is particularly noteworthy is the great desire to travel that can be observed in Germany over the next twelve months. Tourism analysis reports that almost two thirds of Germans are planning at least one vacation trip. This shows that traveling is still seen as a valuable opportunity to escape everyday life and recharge your batteries.
Popular travel destinations in 2024
Some trend goals are already emerging for 2024. According to holidaycheck, the ten most popular travel destinations for this year are:

The 2024 travel analysis by the Forschungsgemeinschaft Urlaub und Reisen e.V. also found that 76% of trips last year were abroad. Spain remains the most popular foreign destination, followed by Italy, Türkiye, Greece and Austria. Domestically, however, Schleswig-Holstein was able to take first place for the first time, followed by Bavaria and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Domestic travel market share increased from 22% to 24%.
Types of vacation and travel months
The most popular type of vacation remains a relaxing vacation, which 70% of Germans prefer. A beach holiday follows closely at 64%, while 40% are interested in a family holiday. City trips are planned for 32% of travelers, while 33% of Germans are considering a nature vacation.
Statistics also show that the main travel months in Germany are July and August, when 18% of Germans travel. This travel time is often used by families with school-age children or teachers. Despite numerous challenges, the desire to travel remains a central part of the lives of many citizens.
Overall, it shows that the anticipation of vacation in 2025 is strengthened by the already known trends and travel destinations. While many Germans want to pack their bags and create new memories, the travel industry remains a fundamental element of personal development and quality of life.
