Most popular airports in Germany 2025: Nuremberg loses second place!
A current study by AirHelp on the most popular and least popular airports in Germany for 2025 shows that Lübeck-Blankensee Airport is at the top of the ranking. It tops the list with a 4.4 star rating and over 316,000 Google reviews. This shows how important satisfied customers are for the attractiveness of an airport. A look at the other places shows that regional airports can also do well.
Second place was shared by Münster/Osnabrück, Kassel and Rostock airports, all of which were rated 4.3 stars. Nuremberg Airport follows in third place with 4.2 stars and 7,600 reviews. After Nuremberg took second place last year, it fell to third place this year. Other airports worth mentioning are Paderborn/Lippstadt, Saarbrücken and Friedrichshafen in fourth place and Munich, Bremen and Dresden in fifth place with 4.0 stars each.
Trend towards regional airports
The popularity of regional airports has increased in recent years. However, Memmingen Airport is classified as unpopular, with a rating of only 3.5 stars. Particularly surprising is the last place, which Frankfurt-Hahn Airport took with only 2.8 stars. These rankings make it clear that traveler satisfaction continues to have a decisive influence on the perception of airports.
But it's not just popularity that plays a role in air traffic. In 2022, over 165 million travelers departed from German airports, an increase of over 110% compared to 2021. Airplanes are still the second most popular means of transport for holiday trips in Germany, right after cars. These statistics come from TUI's airport report, which analyzed Google reviews and other data.
Punctuality and connection
Another aspect that is important for travelers is punctuality. In a European comparison, Stuttgart Airport achieved the top position with a punctuality rate of 84.2%. Dublin airport and the airports in Malta and Rome follow. Smooth operations and on-time flights are important to travelers, with 51% of delays caused by airlines and 6% due to weather conditions.
In addition to punctuality, airport connections are another important factor. Frankfurt am Main Airport offers the most direct connections with 296 destinations worldwide. The fastest connections to the main train station are the airports in Düsseldorf (7 minutes), Leipzig (11 minutes) and Frankfurt (12 minutes). When it comes to taxi prices, it turns out that Bremen has the cheapest offers, while the most expensive trip from Frankfurt-Hahn Airport to Koblenz main station costs 150.80 euros.
Overall, the analysis shows that popularity, punctuality and connection to the city center are crucial factors when choosing an airport. Travelers in Germany therefore have a variety of options that they can choose according to their personal needs.
