A lot is happening in the idyllic village of Bibury in southwest England, which is causing the local population to become increasingly concerned. With a population of just a few hundred, the small village is particularly overrun with tourists on weekends, attracting up to 20,000 visitors. These dizzying numbers lead to ever-increasing traffic chaos, which puts a lot of strain on residents. It is reported that tourists often park on sidewalks when official parking spaces are full, creating dangerous situations such as running over feet or blocking driveways.
Nature's theatrical performances are the order of the day: the daily arrivals of large coaches in particular exacerbate the traffic problem. Gloucestershire County Council has therefore announced measures to improve the situation. The planned steps include the temporary closure of bus parking bays in the village center. In addition, new bus stops will be installed elsewhere and the large coaches will be parked on a nearby highway. Visitors are asked to only park their cars in designated areas, as violations of parking regulations can result in fines.
Arlington Row: A Historic Landmark
A particularly popular photo opportunity in Bibury is Arlington Row, a row of historic weavers' houses dating back to the 14th century. In addition to attracting tourists, this iconic structure served as a filming location for the 2007 romantic fantasy film Stardust, which starred celebrities such as Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert de Niro. Arlington Row is often associated with the film Bridget Jones's Diary, but there is no evidence that this filming actually took place there; Rather, parts of the film were filmed in Snowshill, in the North Cotswolds.
