Bocholt increases funding for child day care: new closing time model!

The youth welfare committee of the city of Bocholt is planning important changes to the guidelines for supporting children in day care. These new regulations, which come into force on August 1, 2025, aim to improve the conditions for carers in the region and better take the needs of families into account. Made in Bocholt reports that the adjustments also include an increase in financial resources for carers, which will increase significantly in the new funding period.

One of the most important points is the setting of a continuation rate of 9.49 percent, which is crucial for financing child day care. In addition, the rental cost subsidies will be adjusted. For rented rooms, a subsidy of up to 81.60 euros per place and month can be granted, while in large day care centers an amount of 10.56 euros per square meter is set.

Financial support for parents

Another significant change is the increase in the investment cost subsidy to 575 euros per place, which also applies to large day care centers. Parents can be relieved through various financial support options. According to that Family portal NRW Parents are entitled to exemption from daycare contributions or to subsidies based on parental income. This support is particularly important for families with low incomes who receive, for example, citizen's benefit, child allowance or similar benefits.

The policy changes in Bocholt also represent a new approach to closing days. In the future, a maximum of 27 days per year may be declared as closing days, which must be agreed with the parents. These “closing days” replace the previous term “vacation”, and in the future, educational training on these days will also be included.

Allowances and expenses

The changes will lead to additional expenditure of around 130,000 euros in the 2025 financial year, which will, however, be covered by funds already planned. An additional €320,000 is expected in 2026 to support increased demand and the new guidelines. The adjustments are a response to legal developments and to the increased needs of families and carers in the Bocholt region.

In summary, it can be said that with these innovations the city of Bocholt is taking a step in the right direction to improve the framework conditions for child day care and to create lasting relief for families.
