Bukit Selong or Selong Hill is a small viewpoint on rice fields with a view of a carpet made of fields and rice fields in Sembalun, East Lombok.

This viewpoint is one of the best activities in Sembalun if you are looking for a great viewpoint at sunset or sunrise without a large hike.

How to find Bukit Selong

Bukit Selong is located directly behind the village of Sembalun. If you spend the night in Sembalun, you can either walk to the viewpoint on foot or by motorcycle. If you follow these instructions on how to find Bukit Selong, you shouldn't take longer than 30 minutes on foot or 10 minutes by car.

The easiest way to find the BUKIT SELONG viewpoint is the use of Google Maps, which you lead to the viewpoint. Here, however, there are some general instructions if you should get lost:

Follow from the office of the Rinjani National Park of the main street to the south and turn left to "Putra Sembalun Homestay". Go on until you cross a small bridge over a river and get through the bamboo forest to a small village. From here you can already see some of the rice fields, the BUKIT SELONG viewpoint is the small hill right in front of the village.

When you follow the hill up the path, you will see the remains of an old wooden star and a tree house bridge. Nevertheless, the view of the rice fields is magical at both sunrise and at sunset.

From the top of the Selong hill, you can also see the entire city of Sembalun and watch the sunset behind Rinjani. During our visit there was a persistent fog, which was connected to a spectacular scene with the overhanging night prayers.

The rice fields form a pasti patch carpet that lies under the surrounding hills, including the popular hiking point of view; Pergasingan hill.

The village of Sembalun is not exactly the most tourist place on Lombok. However, this does not mean that there are no great guest houses or hotels.

Accommodation in my Sembalun: Radiyah Guesthouse This is one of the cheapest accommodation opportunities in Sembalun. I would definitely recommend it. The rooms are small but very clean and have everything you need. There is unlimited free coffee and tea as well as a free breakfast. The owner is extremely helpful and organizes a motorcycle for you for 50,000 IDR per day.

The best accommodation in the Inn style: Sembalun Kita Cottage This is probably the place I would have booked if I hadn't stayed in the Radiyah. You have great reviews, inexpensive rooms and large beds. It includes a free breakfast that is classified as "very good" on Booking.com.
