Bundestag decides to extend the deadline for all-day care until 2029!

On June 10, 2025, the Bundestag will face important votes that will have a direct impact on the education sector. These decisions will be announced during a live broadcast on June 25, 2025 at 1 p.m., with the parliamentary day opening without prior debate. The first three proposals that will be voted on have already been agreed upon in the Bundestag.

The first proposal is a bill to extend the deadlines in the all-day expansion investment program. This is a response to the needs of states and municipalities that have asked for more planning security for the nationwide expansion of all-day care at primary schools. The bill will be referred to the Committee on Education, Family, Women, Senior Citizens and Youth for lead consideration.

Extension of the full-day program

The federal government has extended the investment program for the expansion of all-day care by two years until the end of 2029. Federal Minister for Family Affairs Karin Prien highlights the efforts already made by the states and municipalities to expand all-day education and care offerings. In order to implement the expansion reliably, federal funds of 3.5 billion euros are available until 2029.

A central goal of the program is to create a gradual legal right to full-day care, which is scheduled to come into force from the 2026/27 school year. From the 2029/30 school year, every primary school child in grades 1 to 4 will be entitled to a full-day place. The extension of the deadline is seen as a sign of the political will to support and implement this expansion in the long term.

Further votes in the Bundestag

In addition to the proposal for all-day care, two other bills are on the agenda. The second bill relates to the amendment of the 1956 Treaty on the Navigability of the Moselle, with reference to the Fourth Protocol of September 18, 2023. This will be referred to the Transport Committee for lead discussion.

The third bill concerns an immediate tax investment program that aims to strengthen Germany as a business location. This draft will also be handed over to the Finance Committee. These topics illustrate the Federal Government's broad efforts to act responsibly and future-oriented, both in the education sector and in economic and infrastructure policy.
