The incredible, 500 -year -old Curtain Fig Tree in Yungaburra is one of the most underestimated pit stops on every trip to the plateaus. The very small Curtain Fig National Park is just a few kilometers from Yungaburra and is really a hidden jewel that is unknown to most visitors, but a proud icon for the locals of the tablelands.

Where is the curtain tree?

You can find this unique fig tree in Curtain Fig National Park, just 2 km west of Yungaburra on the Gillies Highway. Pay attention to signs to a junction to the Fig Tree Road, where you will find a parking space on the side of the road near the promenade.

What to expect when you visit the curtain penalty tree

From the parking lot there is a short 180 m long loop and an elevated wooden footbridge that leads to incredible Curtain Fig Tree. The wooden footbridge leads around the tree, which means that they have a good viewpoint from almost every angle.

Although this national park is very small, it seems as if you are almost putting into a prehistoric Jural landscape when you enter. The noises of tropical birds in a wide amphitheater from jungle tendrils and twisted roots. This is really a magical place that is worth a visit to a trip to the Tableland.

This special fig tree was called curtain fig due to the 15 -meter -high air roots, which fall down from the canopy onto the rainforest floor. The tree is almost 50 meters high and has a circumference of 39 meters.

How did it come about?

Once rooted, the strangling amount grows quickly and kills the host tree.
