Darmstadt 98 flies to San Antonio: friendly match and exchange!

SV Darmstadt 98 is planning a trip to the USA next March, which is part of a long-term partnership with San Antonio FC. This same partnership was launched 15 months ago and aims to promote sporting, cultural and social contacts between the two cities. The journey takes the Lilies to the grounds of San Antonio FC, where they will also play a friendly match against the US hosts on March 25, 2024. This is an important step to deepen friendly relations and cooperation between the two clubs. During the trip, Hanno Benz, the mayor of Darmstadt, will also be in contact with his counterpart Ron Nirenberg from San Antonio in order to promote intercultural exchange and explore further opportunities for cooperation.

As part of the cooperation, training for the players is also on the agenda. In addition, several cultural and social activities are planned, which include exchanges between the clubs and between the two cities. In this context, SV Darmstadt 98 is also cooperating with the DFL German Football League in order to increase the visibility of the Bundesliga and the international reputation of the club. Cooperation agreement with San Antonio FC

The official cooperation agreement between SV Darmstadt 98 and San Antonio FC was signed on Tuesday. Both mayors, Hanno Benz of Darmstadt and Ron Nirenberg of San Antonio, support the initiative, which aims to promote young players in particular and to strengthen the exchange of knowledge in the areas of sports science, sports medicine, training science, marketing, sales, media and innovation. Martin Kowalewski, Managing Director for Marketing and Sales at SV Darmstadt 98, highlights the numerous advantages of this collaboration. He emphasizes that synergies between the two clubs can realize the full potential of both organizations.

Bobby Perez, Chief Legal Officer of Spurs Sports & Entertainment, also spoke positively about the new cooperation and underlined the importance of such partnerships in modern sport. The city cooperation between Darmstadt and San Antonio has existed since 2017 and already includes political, cultural and social aspects as well as resilient structures for youth work and sport.

Delegation visits strengthen the partnership

To further deepen the relationship, a delegation from SV Darmstadt 98 visited Texas from June 26th to July 2nd, where they met with San Antonio FC officials and visited the city of San Antonio and the Southwest Research Institute. A delegation from San Antonio also came to Darmstadt in July to enable a more in-depth exchange on site. A joint statement from the mayors emphasized the integrative power of sport, which not only improves sporting performance but also promotes understanding and friendship between cultures.
