Without further ado, let’s get to this short and sweet list of places to watch the sunset in Pushkar.

1. Savitri Temple

Savitri Temple is a famous Hindu pilgrimage site and also one of the best sunset spots in Pushkar. It is undoubtedly difficult to miss this temple from almost anywhere in the holy oasis. It rests proudly on the pyramid-shaped Ratnagiri Hill, offering visitors the option of taking the 200 steps to the summit or taking a quick cable car ride.

The route to the bottom of the hill is easy and only takes 10 to 15 minutes walk from the lake.

2. The Pushkar Ghats

Do you prefer a sunset spot in Pushkar closer to the lake? How about walking down to the lakeside ghats and watching the reflection of the hazy Thar desert sun setting behind the hills?

One of the best sunsets on the Ghats is at the southeast corner of the lake, right next to the Jaipur Ghats. It is marked as “Sunset Point” on Google Maps.

You'll often find lots of other travelers in this place, and some local hostels organize weekly hikes and meet-ups here.

3. Sunset Cafe

Typically, my guides are aimed at adventurers who enjoy hiking and viewpoints. However, I also understand that there are times when it's better to end the day with a sip of chai and a laugh with good friends.

Although I didn't try them all, the best sunset cafe in Pushkar that I checked out is Hotel Sunset & Roof Top Restaurant, just behind the Jaipur Ghats and the aforementioned sunset point.

This cafe is a little more expensive than some of the street vendors, but you pay for the view. Another option is the nearby Moksha Cafe, which also has a rooftop terrace and serves chai and Indian cuisine.

4. Gayatri Mata Temple

Another less visited but equally impressive sunset spot is the Gayatri Mata or Pap Mochani Temple. This is another small temple on a hill just behind the bus stand in Pushkar.

While this hill is not as high or steep as the Savitri Temple, it is much closer to the city and offers unparalleled views of Pushkar Lake and the sprawling markets below.

Where to Stay in Pushkar – Accommodation Guide

With so many accommodation options in Pushkar, I can understand the frustration when booking. When choosing, I recommend finding a place that is close to the lake. This is because most of the activities in Pushkar are within walking distance of the lake. Since accommodation in Pushkar is plentiful and cheap, there's really little reason not to book a bed close to the action.

Where I stayed: Madpackers Pushkar This hostel made up my entire visit to Pushkar and the atmosphere fits the destination perfectly. It was named India's Best Hostel in 2019 by Hostelworld for its atmosphere, three terraces, a rooftop chill area and a yoga/camping terrace. To make things even better, dorm rooms cost around $6 per night. This is a no-brainer for me and one that I have no problem recommending.

Best Value Private Room: Varah Square Guest HouseOne of the few accommodation options in Pushkar without negative reviews. Close to the ghat with rooftop views of Pushkar and surrounding mountains. Budget rooms only cost around $5, while you can get a deluxe room with a view for $2 extra.
