Jaipur is one of the best travel destinations in Rajasthan and perhaps in the whole of India. I know that during my visit I was overwhelmed by the splendor of its fortresses and the splendor of its palaces.

But after a long day of exploring Jaipur's bustling bazaars and poignant pink streets and gates, I longed for some viewpoints of the city to relax and watch the Jaipur sunset.

In this guide, I will describe seven of the best viewpoints and sunset points in Jaipur that will cap off another day of travel in Rajasthan in epic fashion.

Best Sunset Viewing Spots in Jaipur

Without further ado, here are the best viewing spots in Jaipur to enjoy the sunset in the Pink City!

1. Amer Fort

Perhaps Jaipur's most incredible fort, Amer Fort has a long history as a defensive fortification for its historic Meena rulers and Rajput kings.

Today, Amer Fort is one of the most popular attractions and sights in Jaipur. It consists of spectacular ramparts, a series of alluring gates and arches, and architecturally brilliant towers and courtyards.

But did you know that Amer Fort also offers one of the best vantage points in Jaipur to watch the sunset?

The journey from Jaipur to Amer takes approximately 20-25 minutes by rickshaw (200-250 rupees). So if you want to go to one of the many Amer Fort towers or villas to watch the sunset in Jaipur, you should leave a little earlier.

2. Jaipur Wall (Amer Wall)

Opposite the Amer Fort is one of the most photogenic walls I have encountered on my travels to India. It is known as Jaipur Wall or Amer Wall. This sandstone wall stretches along the Aravalli Mountains, which once provided the first life defense against invaders.

Nowadays, Jaipur Wall is a popular sunset spot in Jaipur for locals and travelers alike. I recommend climbing the wall just before sunset or sunrise and admire the incredible views of the Thar Desert from its many observation towers.

3. Nahargarh Fort

Another outstanding fort of Jaipur is the mighty Nahargarh Fort. Located on the hills just above the city of Jaipur, this fort also has an impressive viewpoint on the wall.

Unlike Amer Fort, you can walk up the many steps to Nahargarh Fort for free. However, you have to pay an entrance fee if you want to explore the inside of the fort.

Luckily for us, we are looking for the best viewpoints and sunset spots in Jaipur. Therefore, Nahargarh Fort is one of the best as its walls and viewpoints are freely accessible and offer an unparalleled view of the city of Jaipur from above.

4. Jal Mahal

The Jal Mahal or “Water Palace” is another epic attraction of Jaipur that should definitely be on your list of things to see in the city. While it is possible to take a boat tour to Jal Mahal to explore its interior, it is just as beautiful watching it from the shores of the lake.

The Jal Mahal is located on an island in Man Sagar Lake, just 4 kilometers north of the City Palace on Amer Road (road to Amer Fort). If you're looking for a great sunset spot in Jaipur, be sure to head to Man Sagar Lake for epic views of the Jal Mahal and its magnificent mountain backdrop.

5. Surya Mandir

The Surya Mandir translates as “Sun Temple”. It is therefore only fitting that it is also one of the best viewpoints in Jaipur to watch the sunset.

You will find this temple as part of the Galta Ji temple complex, which is also located on the same road leading to the Sun Temple (Surya Mandir).

This beautiful temple is located on a 200-meter-high hill and provides an excellent vantage point to watch the Jaipur sunset over the city skyline. This temple is a little off the beaten track. So if you want to see Jaipur from a unique perspective, be sure to head to this epic temple viewpoint!

This next item on my list of the best sunset spots in Jaipur does not offer the same landscapes and scenery as many of the others. However, the Jaipur Stepwell or Panna Meena Ka Kund is a popular attraction, again located in Amer.

If you wanted to check it out then I highly recommend you go to Jaipur Stepwell for sunset. This will help you capture the best shadows and light reflected from the symmetrical steps of the stepwell.

Otherwise, why not head here about an hour before sunset in Jaipur, then climb the Jaipur Wall to end the day with incredible views of the fort and the Aravalli Mountains.
