How do you get to Duckhole Lake?
The Duckhole Lake Trailhead is located on an unpaved road called Creecton Road, about 15 kilometers from nearby Hastings or 105 kilometers from Hobart.
The path to the starting point can be somewhat confusing because there are several different street options. The streets are largely unpaved, but are used by most vehicle types. Below you will find detailed instructions to get here on the same path that I took here. This also leads to the nearby Adamson's Falls Track.
Start in the direction of "Hastings Caves & Thermal Springs". Only 1.7 kilometers before the visitor center on the Hastings Caves Road there is an unpleasant, unpaved road called Tughanah Road on the right. Turn on this street and follow it until you come to a fork with three directions, where you then have to take the right fork on the creecton road. (Don't take the first road to the right to the Face Road).
Follow the Creecton Road for another 3.6 kilometers until you reach a T-crossing with a sign that shows links to the Adamsons Falls and right to the Duckhole Lake. Of course you have to turn right here. Immediately afterwards cross an old wooden bridge. The parking lot for Duckhole Lake is on the right after this bridge.
The Duckhole Lake Walk
The Duckhole Lake Walk follows a very well -developed, mostly with boards with dense moderate rainforest. It is located right on the edge of Southwest National Park, one of the most remote wilderness areas of Tasmania.

Although the official hiking map shows a way around the Duckhole Lake at the beginning of the hike, this is wrong. Therefore, you will find a few signs near the lake and one at the start.
The path begins with crossing a narrow but flat path, past rows of beautiful ferns along a gentle, tannin -rich brook. After less than a kilometer, the wooden planks and the wooden footbridge begin. These make the Duckhole Lake route really simple and pleasant, as they don't have to hit mud on the way.

After about 2 kilometers you can reach a small wooden bridge shortly before the Lake duckhole.

Duck hole lake
As already mentioned, the Duckhole Lake is actually a doline that was filled with rainwater. Usually a few ducks swim in this natural rainforest basin and if you are lucky, you may even see one or two flap animals as we did.

Right next to the lake is a small wooden planks in front of a large clearing, on which you can make a picnic or enjoy the magical reflections of the highly towering eucalyptus trees.

As soon as you are ready to turn back, follow the same way back to the parking lot. Alternatively, it is possible to continue towards the creecton if if. Unfortunately we had no time for this because we had booked for Hastings Caves, but this waterfall should be really impressive, albeit a little smaller than the nearby Adamsons if. However, remember that this path is much more difficult and requires experience in bush hiking.
