EcoTrophea 2025: Prize for sustainable projects in tourism!

On May 29, 2025, it was announced that the EcoTrophea 2025 of the German Travel Association (DRV) would for the first time honor projects that contribute to the protection and preservation of biological diversity in tourism. The focus of this year’s initiative is the motto “Biodiversity in Tourism”. This international award was established in 1987 and has since honored projects that contribute to sustainability in tourism. The DRV calls on practitioners from the industry as well as from research and nature conservation to submit environmentally and socially responsible projects in order to actively address the challenges in the area of ​​biodiversity.

The deadline for submission of applications is August 28, 2025, while the official award ceremony will take place on October 9, 2025 in Berlin. Given global threats such as environmental degradation, climate change and loss of natural habitats, the tourism industry has a critical responsibility to protect sensitive ecosystems. Harald Zeiss, Chairman of the DRV Sustainability Committee, emphasizes the importance of biological diversity for sustainable tourism development. Wanted projects and initiatives

The EcoTrophea aims to promote practical projects and initiatives that support or preserve biodiversity. We are particularly looking for measures to:

• Förderung regionaler Biodiversität in Zusammenarbeit mit lokalen Gemeinschaften
• Aufklärung und Sensibilisierung der Reisenden zur Biodiversität

Organizations and companies that have successfully developed concepts to protect natural ecosystems are eligible to participate. The application form is available online in both German and English.

The EcoTrophea 2025 is not only an award, but also a call to action for the entire industry to actively support the preservation of biodiversity. The awarding of the awards during the DRV Capital Congress in Berlin is seen as an important step in raising awareness of environmentally friendly and sustainable tourism practices.
