Life in a motorhome: This is how the everyday life of a showwoman works!

The world of showmen is colorful, loud and full of movement. Kerstin Spangenberger, who runs the “Break-Dancer” and “Chaos” rides with her family, gives insights into her life as part of this special industry. How rheinpfalz.de reports, Kerstin has been active for 26 years and gave up her job as a teacher to immerse herself in the world of acting with her husband. She met him during a winter break in Saarlouis; the two ensured a stable relationship and decided to travel together.

The past year was not only a time of travel for the family, but also of performance. Kerstin and her family live in Püttlingen, but spend most of their time in a motorhome because they are often on the road. Every year she writes between 150 and 160 applications for fairs to offer her rides. The “Break Dancer” is particularly popular, while the “Chaos” ride is less common.

Life as a showman

There are many challenges in the world of showmanship. Kerstin cannot confirm that there is a general trend towards higher and faster rides, as there are always different target groups. Her “break dancer,” who is 33 years old, costs more to buy than a single-family home. The lifespan of the rides depends heavily on care and must always take the new safety regulations into account. Kerstin also attaches great importance to the atmosphere: music and effects play a central role, so that QR codes on the “Break Dancer” enable visitors to express their music wishes.

However, compared to large amusement parks, Kerstin does not see herself in competition. The atmosphere that prevails at fairs is unique and an important meeting place for people, especially young people, who can make contacts here.

Events and attractions in Kiel

However, the show is not just limited to the travels of Kerstin and her family. In the historic setting of the spring market in Kiel, which will take place on Wilhelmplatz from April 19 to 27, 2025, visitors will experience a combination of traditional attractions and family-friendly offers. New products such as the action carousel “Sound Wave”, which is suitable for adults and children aged 6 and over, and the “Magic House” with 60 special effects over 200 meters for children will be presented. The extensive list of other attractions includes bumper cars, a family roller coaster, various children's carousels, claw and shooting ranges, and duck fishing.

Gastronomically, visitors are treated to a variety of dishes such as cotton candy, fried almonds, bratwursts, fries and even vegetarian and vegan specialties.

Special promotions and accessibility

Special promotional days during the market, such as visits from the Easter Bunny on April 20th and 21st and appearances by superheroes and Disney princesses on April 24th, make the event even more attractive. The spring market is also supported by well-organized opening times: on April 19th and 25th the market is open from 2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., while the remaining days last from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

There is barrier-free access to the event site for people with disabilities, including appropriate sanitary facilities and parking facilities. There is also a connection to local public transport via bus connections from Kiel train station. The contact person for this is the public order office of the state capital Kiel.
