One last wish: Felix's moving trip to Norderney with his family
A man from North Rhine-Westphalia, who is only known as “Felix” out of respect for his situation, was able to realize his heartfelt wish thanks to the wish car team and make his last trip to the North Sea come true. Felix is terminally ill and wanted to go back to Norderney to refresh his memories of carefree times. His apartment, which is decorated in a maritime style, reflects his great love for the North Sea, which has been so important to him in recent years.
The wish car team that looks after Felix picked him and his wife up. Beforehand, they stopped off with Manuela, a volunteer hospice companion, who offered Felix and his family support on their journey. To the delight of the entire family, including Felix's three children, his partner, a grandchild and his best friend with his wife and a dachshund, the journey continued by ferry to Norderney.
A shared experience
After arrival, a meal was held together to help the group recover after the trip. The following day, despite the windy weather conditions, a varied program was organized for Felix. The first stop took the group to the promenade by the sea, after which a group photo was taken and a visit to the “milk bar” was scheduled.
A trip to the city center enabled a little shopping tour, followed by a visit to Felix’s favorite fish restaurant. The last stop of the day was another restaurant that Felix enjoyed visiting. The trip ended with a long breakfast on Sunday morning before the group started the return journey at the same time. On the mainland we finally had one last fish sandwich together.
Emotional moments
A particularly emotional moment was Felix's reunion with his father, whom he had not seen for over a year because he lives in a nursing home. This last trip represented valuable time together for the family and was intended to give them strength.
The ASB Wish Car fulfills the final wishes of seriously ill people with respect and empathy. Each excursion is planned individually with the aim of offering those affected and their relatives a final, unforgettable view. The trip to Norderney was not just a trip, but a farewell full of memories and humanity that will accompany the family for a long time.
