Discover the historic Frauenberg monastery over Fulda!
Fulda, Deutschland - The Frauenberg monastery today presents itself as a historical place that is enthroned over the city of Fulda. The baroque church and the adjacent monastery are visible signs of history and faith that are firmly rooted here. The monastery is used both by the Franciscan Order and by the Antonius community foundation: Mensch together. This connection underlines the importance of the location with regard to spiritual and social issues.
The historical relevance of the Frauenberg monastery goes back to the time of Bishop Bonifatius, which lived from 672 to 754. He often visited the silence on a nearby mountain to pray. After his death, a small chapel was built there in his honor. Later, around the year 800, Abbot Ratgar had a church and a monastery built on this mountain that were consecrated in 809 of the Mother of God. This was the origin of the monastery, which is now deeply rooted in the history of Fulda.
History and inclusion
The mountain on which the Frauenberg monastery is located was known as the "Bischofsberg" until the 13th century. Since then he has been called "Berg of our dear wife", which is popularly called "Frauenberg". In 1237 the Franciscans came to Fulda, eleven years after the death of St. Francis of Assisi. They built a church and a monastery in the city in 1246 and lived there for over 300 years.
Inclusion is a central topic that not only includes the religious meaning of the place, but also the social responsibility of the monastery. In this special place, the life of the Franciscans is discussed and the possibility of reflection on one's own spirituality is offered.
