First assessment of the sustainable tourism strategy in Leipzig!

One year after the introduction of the tourism sustainability strategy for the Leipzig region, an initial assessment has now been made. The third partner meeting took place on May 13, 2025 in the Old Kranwerk Naunhof, organized by Leipzig Tourismus und Marketing (LTM) GmbH and the LEIPZIG REGION e.V. tourism association. V. was organized. The event focused on progress, challenges and shared perspectives.

The regional service providers presented practical examples of sustainable mobility, major events, regional value creation and recruiting skilled workers. Sophisticated but also implementable solutions were presented by players such as MDV, Stadt-Land-Küche, 4Win Recruiting and the International German Gymnastics Festival. In an expert discussion entitled “Sustainable tourism: Shaping paths for sustainable development together”, representatives from Rosenberg Delikatessen, Kuhstall e. V., Geopark-Porphyrland, Bad Lausick and the Leipzig Region Tourism Association about the most important success factors: cooperation and exchange.

Insights and progress

The event not only offered an opportunity to network, but also to visit the Old Crane Works, a technical cultural monument that provides insights into Saxony's industrial history. A new brochure on the LEIPZIG REGION's tourism sustainability strategy was also presented. This summarizes the central goals, focus topics and measures of the strategy and includes aspects such as environmentally friendly mobility, local value creation, attractive working conditions and cultural heritage.

The brochure is available both in digital, barrier-free form and in a printed version and serves as a practical working document and as a guide for the strategic further development of the destination. www.leipzig.travel/entdecken/nachhaltigkeit offers further information on sustainable offers in the region.

Outlook for future collaborations

The good practice examples presented showed the current status of the implementation of the sustainability strategy and offered valuable insights into the experiences, wishes and challenges of the participants. A next partner meeting is already being planned for 2026, which illustrates the ongoing cooperation and development of sustainable solutions in tourism. The summary of the event can therefore be assessed as positive, and the focus remains on the continuous development of the tourism sustainability strategy.
