Woman opens her eyes in the coffin: signs of life after inspecting the dead!

In a shocking incident in Pilsen, Czech Republic, an 88-year-old woman was mistakenly declared dead. Her partner called 911 because he couldn't wake her up and assumed she had died. This led to a medical professional acting as an official coroner issuing a death certificate. The incident happened on Friday, about 90 kilometers west of Prague.

The dramatic turnaround came when the woman, presumed dead, opened her eyes as funeral home workers placed her in the coffin. This led to staff immediately alerting emergency services, who took the woman to hospital. The elderly woman's health is described as stable; She is doing well given her age and previous illnesses.

Investigations against the doctor

The police have now initiated an investigation against the doctor because there is suspicion that she failed to provide assistance. This type of crime is regulated in Germany by Section 323c of the Criminal Code and refers to situations in which someone fails to act in an emergency situation, even though this would be necessary and reasonable. The aim of the legislature is to promote interpersonal solidarity and to create a system that stimulates action in critical moments.

In the case of the 88-year-old woman, the question arises as to whether the medical professional handled the situation correctly or whether they failed to conduct a medical examination before issuing a death certificate. If it turns out that it was the doctor's fault, this could have serious legal consequences.

Reactions from the funeral home

The funeral home responsible for obtaining the "coroner" expressed regret over the incident. After a change in the law in 2011, the “coroner” in the Czech Republic is responsible for determining identity and cause of death. The company plans to take personnel action to ensure that such errors do not occur again.

This tragic mix-up also brings back memories of other cases in which failure to provide assistance led to serious consequences. A prominent example is the case of Daniel Küblböck, who died in late summer 2018 after presumably jumping from the deck of a cruise ship. His father is making allegations against the authorities for failing to provide assistance, which could reopen the discussion about the legal framework and responsibility in such situations.

The requirements for a criminal failure to provide assistance, as enshrined in German law, show that both legal and ethical considerations play a role in such emergency situations. It is crucial to respond quickly and appropriately to acute situations in order to prevent such disturbing incidents.
