Games Workshop surprises with a record bonus of 23 million euros for employees!
Games Workshop, the world's leading manufacturer of tabletop games based in Nottingham, England, is planning one of the largest bonus payments in the company's history. As part of a profit-sharing program, up to 20 million pounds, which corresponds to around 23.7 million euros, will be paid out to employees. This is an increase on the previous year when the bonus was £18 million. It is estimated that around 1,500 employees at the Nottingham headquarters and almost twice that number worldwide will benefit from this exceptional payment. This reports Leadersnet.
The reason for the high bonus payment is the company's impressive financial results. In the financial year that ended at the end of June, Games Workshop achieved sales of 560 million pounds, which corresponds to around 664 million euros. This represents an increase of 13% compared to the previous year. Profits grew by 20% to 210 million pounds (approx. 249 million euros). Particularly noteworthy is the strong growth in the licensing business, with revenues increasing by an impressive 140% compared to the previous year. The successes in this area were significantly supported by the video game adaptation “Space Marine 2”, which sold over 4.5 million copies in the first month.
Successful licensing and product sales
According to its financial report for the half year ended December 1, 2024, Games Workshop recorded revenue of 299.5 million pounds (approximately $366.2 million), up 20.9% year-on-year. Operating profit grew 33.4% to 126.1 million pounds (about $154.1 million), with the majority of sales coming from the core segment. This segment achieved sales of 269.4 million pounds (approximately 331.2 million dollars), an increase of 14.3% compared to the same period last year.
Licensing revenue increased 2.5-fold to 30.1 million pounds (approximately $36.8 million). CEO Kevin Rountree described the past half-year as the best in the company's history. These positive developments are due not least to the high sales of “Space Marine 2”, which not only recorded over 2 million units at launch, but also more than 5 million unique players in total.
Outlook and adjustments
Despite the impressive growth, Games Workshop expressed caution about future licensing revenue. While the company continues its collaboration with Saber Interactive, no official announcements have been made regarding a potential sequel to Space Marine 2. However, the upcoming release of a new edition of the first “Space Marine” video game from 2011 on June 10th could provide further impetus.
Games Workshop is also working with Amazon on a series adaptation of “Warhammer 40,000,” in which Henry Cavill will be involved. These strategic moves underscore the company's ambitions to expand its influence beyond the tabletop business when it comes to reaching new audiences and further driving growth.
