Hamburg's new hybrid ferry Grasbrook: Finally arrived!
Hamburg, Deutschland - The new "Grasbrook" hybrid ferry has now reached the Hanseatic City of Hamburg. However, their long way home was accompanied by considerable delays: the ferry arrived with a six -month delay, which is particularly due to technical problems and a long waiting time to replacement components. The takeover by HADAG will take place on May 22nd, and the ferry has been in operation since last week.
Originally, the transfer for December was planned after the launch on September 23 took place. A bleached man was used for the transport of the ferry because the water level of the Elbe was low. The cost of the "Grasbrook" amounts to 8.5 million euros. In addition to this ship, Hadag is also in possession of two other hybrid ships: "Neuland", which was baptized in September, and "Finkenwerder", which arrived in October.
technical innovations and environmentally friendly drive
All three Hadag fleet ships are equipped with a modern plug-in hybrid drive. This technology enables the batteries to be charged at the Hamburg fish market at night. The electric drive is used while the diesel engine is used while driving on and off. The decarbonization of the fleet is to be supported - a goal that is already anchored in the coalition agreement between the SPD and the Greens.
The drive systems of the "Grasbrook" consist of two 5-leaf EVSP 9x5/100 each with 200 kW, which provide the necessary thrust and enable a maximum speed of up to 13 knots. These EVSPs are equipped with permanent magnet electric motors from the subsidiary Elin Motors from Voith Turbo, which offer a low-noise and emission solution. This not only ensures a high level of comfort on board, but also significantly reduces the energy requirement and guarantees optimal maneuverability, even under difficult conditions in the port of Hamburg.
The baptism of the "Grasbrook" ferry is planned for mid -July, and the anticipation for another modern and environmentally friendly means of transport in Hamburg is already noticeable.
