While there is so much to see and do on Tasmania's wild west coast, the sad truth is that many miss it! If you made it to this blog post then congratulations, you are in for a treat!

In this guide I will highlight one of the many attractions on Tasmania's west coast; Hogarth Falls, near the township of Strahan. This is a beautiful forest waterfall that is very easy to access, requiring just a short but scenic walk near town.

Where is Hogarth Falls

One great thing about Hogarth Falls is how easily accessible this waterfall is. Visitors will find the waterfall trail car park just a few minutes drive from Strahan Ferry Terminal in Long Bay. Below is the exact location of the waterfall parking lot where you can start the walk to the waterfall.

How do I get here?

To get to Hogarth Falls you can either drive to the car park marked above or simply walk here from the harbor. Follow the “Esplanade” around the bend, past Bay and Fish Co, and you will soon see a white picket fence. This is the park reserve known as People Park and is also the starting point for the short walk to the falls.

Here you will also find a toilet block and even covered barbecue facilities!

The Hogarth Falls Walk

Hiking distance: 2.1 km return
Duration: 45 minutes – 1 hour return
Height: N/A
Difficulty level: Very easy

The Hogarth Falls Walk starts at People’s Park and is very well signposted and easy to navigate. In reality it's more of a city walk than a rainforest hike, but the beautiful natural surroundings will make you feel like you're deep in the Tarkine. Many iconic Tasmanian trees can be found here, including sassafras, myrtle and leatherwood.

The hike is mostly flat and follows sections of wide, cleared paths and boardwalks. After about 1 kilometer you have a short, easy section to climb before descending below the main waterfall at Hogarth Falls.

Hogarth Falls Tasmania

Once you descend the short wooden staircase you will reach the base of the upper level of Hogarth Falls. This point is actually between the two teirs, meaning you get a great view of the main waterfall and can even look down at the lower cascade behind you.

Overall, Hogarth Falls is approximately 15 meters high, with the largest fall being the upper level. Hogarth Falls is a very picturesque waterfall that is definitely worth a quick stop if you are in Strahan.

Although it's probably not recommended, I walked around the fence on the upper level to follow a short, well-worn path to the top of the upper level. Here I managed to get a few additional shots of the waterfall from above.
